Finally grabbed a Fitzed big bore Colt; this one's a 1917. (Two serial numbers: the one on the butt is the US number, dated December 1918, the one on the frame seems to be 1920.)

Whenever it may have been born, it is required that its hammer be bobbed. Being over 100 yrs old, it might do well getting a checkover from a gunsmith who is familiar with the breed.

Advice as to who in MD might get it done would be appreciated.

I have a Dremel and an inflated sense of what I can accomplish. I'm willing to give it a try....

Bobbing the hammer is not hard, matching the existing finish is. Additionally, when you remove mass, sometimes you have to increase spring tension to insure reliable ignition. Just something to think about.

Dropped off at Scott's just now. Gun is parkerised. I don't care if they match the finish. The gun's appeal is its brutal functional look IMO. Pretty sure Scott's is on top of any possible issues.
