    My squirrel hypothesis

I think squirrels may have over eaten cicadas causing the hard exoskeleton to lodge in and mess up they’re stomachs and kill them..

i am in washco, squirrels last year had something wrong, tails fell off when picking up the dead ones, skin came off of the only tail that did not break off. survivors are tiny.
i intended to eat the ones i killed, after killing a lot of squirrels over decades, i have never seen this phenom before. they went into the field for the buzzards

While muzzleloader deer hunting last week in SW Garrett Co. near the WV line. I did not see the usual amount that I normally see. On the light side for sure. We have both grey and red fox squirrels. The reds are bigger in size than the greys.
