I had a Va Non Res way back in the day (back when it first became the only way to carry in WV .

Back when the raised the Non Res renewal to $100 ( long enough ago that $100 was still serious money ) , I took a careful look , and at the time , every place Va was Recognized , also recognized Utah .

Ironically , with Va now a deep purple , and powerful political forces prioritizing rolling Reciprosity back even farther , I'll probably get another one again before the big rush starts .
    Thankfully, DubVee rediscovered the COTUS.

Not all at once , multiple baby steps .

West Virginia was actually anti gun , or at least anti Bear from early 20th Century until the Shall Issue Revolution .

Read up about the open warfare in 1910's and 20's in the * Mine Wars * .The state restricted being armed , to eliminate bands of armed strikers , and to greatly reduce the private armies of the mine owners .

For most of the time . in most of the State was selectively enforced against Union Organisers and Business Agents . Was frequently ignored for non political , everyday ridge runners .

    But on topic .

First WV was Shall Issue for Residents only . Then they added specifically Pemits issued by Virginia and Kentucky only , and Kentucky then didn't issue to non residents . ( But was permissive about non Permit carry .)

I got one as well today. I had already sent my renewal in, which they received on August 20.

VA does not remind you. I believe there are advantages to having a VA non res. Has something to do with federal GFZ's. I can't remember exactly what it is. I am sure someone will be along shortly.
I just came across this thread & checked my Virginia permit, the sucker expired in 2021. Assumed they would notify me prior to expiring!

    Triple dang!

The advantage of a state permit is you can be in a GFSZ in that state. The specific wording of the statute says you cannot KNOWINGLY enter a school zone without a permit from the state in which the school is in. My defense will be I am not from this state, therefore did not know the school was there. Besides, violations of this are usually not charged by itself. It is used as an add on charge for more serious crimes

They say snooze ya lose <g>. Any way, even though permitless carry is legal, I was convinced by my spouse to renew the VA permit, the rationale being one never knows what changes politicians might make when it comes to firearms.

    Agree 100%

My daughter lives in VA, I visit her often therefore I feel a Va permit for me is the way to go!

    VA acknowledged receiving my application

Due to a high volume of applications, the current processing time for nonresident concealed handgun permits is 1 to 2 months.

    ***The application fee is non-refundable

    Juuuuust over the line
    My time line:

Expiration date was 13 Aug, 2024
I think their renewal rule is no more than 120 days prior to expiration
I requested a renewal package, it was postmarked 6 June
Completed and mailed the package, they processed payment 2 July
New license mailed 3 July, received a couple of days later
Expiration/renewal notice letter from VSP postmarked 8 July
(which was after I had already received the new permit)

New permit good until 3 July 2029, so I lost a little over month by renewing early, not really worth worrying about
