my b-i-l has a shot gun he doesn't know what to do with. he bought a single shot shotgun a long time ago, for fifty bucks. a friend of his convinced him to cut off the stock and chop the barrel down to 18 1/2 inches. they never shot it after that 'cause they were afraid. recently we were playing around with it, trying to close it by swinging it, when the firing pin dropped out. he doesnt want a shotgun thats useless but he also doesnt want to put money into a piece of junk. is the reciever alone worth anything? what should he do with it?

What's the manufacturer? Some of the old single shots are worth only $50 in useable condition. Two years ago, I was buying them by the arm load here in NC

He should probably make his friend buy it for $50, or else wait for the next gun "buy back" program and stick them with it.

If someone were skilled enough to remove/ replace the firing pin themselves , it would be a minor issue.

The shop minium labor from a 'smith would probably be about the same as the cost of an older generic single shotgun that worked.

Depending on how you look at it : Nothing to loose by learning as you go to try to replace the firing pin at home. A good guinea pig to practice stock refinishing , home blueing / parkerizing/ painting/ cammo'ing . He could karma it to his b*i*l .

It's pretty much a parts gun now, worth about $25. If he hadn't chopped it, it would be worth $150-175. I think that's a folder, that is when opened if folds in half and the trigger gaurd tucks into the forend. What's the overall length? Is it marked Galef or something like that?
