It's getting to the point where no human behavior, no matter how stupid, evil, or cruel, surprises me anymore.

As a species, we've reached rock bottom and have begun to dig.

So, they wanted to keep everyone in a confined space with a deadly gas? Wouldn't you treat this like a fire and get outside with fresh air?

14 year old males are often entranced by this sort of thing. I know of many from my youth who needed to be kept far away from concentrated nitric acid, picric acid, glycerine, permanganates and so on. And that was in the days before such sources as the Anarchist's Cookbook or the internet were available.

Things that go BOOM are fascinating, until fingers and eyeballs go missing.

The subtext is that the kid is bringing the stuff to school. Schools are boring, authoritarian hellholes for anyone with imagination; one can see the motivation, even as one deplores it. They are filled with kids, most of whom are far from ready to enter society, and some who are not even housetrained. (There's a thread somewhere about the vile state of school bathrooms. It doesn't stop there, of course.)

If this was a 30 year old, I'd look at it differently. Even so, the kid must be restrained. Wholesale poisoning is not the best solution to the problems of adolescence, though close association with that demographic might well promote that opinion.

Will get details from MM Jr later this evening. Limited info I have (not from MSM sources) says students were initially evac'd to the outdoor football stadium, then loaded onto school busses and transported to other local schools away from Urbana.

It does help to study some history. We’re the same species that lived through the horrors of the Dark Ages, who celebrated witch burnings, who tossed around smallpox blankets, or did everything awful on a village-by-village basis that characterized almost all of human history.

A morally adrift, sociopathic teenage basket case with angry-at-the-world revenge fantasies and solid sociopathy isn’t anything new.

Urbana HS went on lockdown this morning after a student brought bleach to school with the intent of making mustard gas (per instructions on TikTok.)

So, they wanted to keep everyone in a confined space with a deadly gas? Wouldn't you treat this like a fire and get outside with fresh air?

They didn't go on lockdown. They evacuated the school and kids were outside. They handled it just fine.

Apparently that kid has had some problems according to some of the students. He's a known issue. That's where the ball was dropped.

    Awright, here's MM Jr's account -

Announcement on the PA system identifies a "fire drill" with building evacuation to the football stadium. The alarm claxon wasn't the standard "fire drill," and the calm "move to the nearest exit" voice-over was different, too. Student body was held there for an hour, then loaded onto busses that transport them to Urbana Middle (adjacent property.) Students were packed into the UMS cafeteria like sardines. Teachers had no information about the situation. Eventually they were loaded back onto the busses and returned to the high school and told to "just go about your business."

There was a notable chlorine bleach smell upon the students' return. Apparently the perp tried to mix bleach and urine in several of the school toilets to make "mustard gas." (Ammonia and bleach will make chlorine gas, but there's not a lot of ammonia in human urine ... you'll need to add sulfur and hydrocarbons to get mustard gas.) Jr said the perp fled the school, but was apprehended later.

Police response was pretty large, and included both SWAT and the bomb dogs. Four students fainted and were transported to the hospital (two passed out at the stadium evac site.) Parents were, understandably, freaked-out.

My son just went to a friends house for a bit. He thought people were acting a little more dramatic than needed. Having read some of the comments on the Urbana parents FB page I agree. He and his friends just headed back when they got the all clear. Track and field got canceled for some reason. Wrestling practice was on so he went there.

Frankly, I'm more concerned with the foot fungus he's going to get from the shoes he borrowed.
