Had been wanting one a while passively, and it came up in my allocations...so I recently picked up one of the Uberti Schofield patterns in .45 Colt. This one has the 5" nickeled with fire-blued screws, so the fancy non-engraved one. Took it to the range on Tuesday, and have a few points in both categories.

    PROS:
-The revolver shoots pretty much to point of aim, just a tiny bit to the left. I was placing rounds on a 4" plate at 15 yards without too much trouble.
-Trigger is nice, action is smooth, and ejector works as it should for quick reloads.
-Recoil is extremely manageable even with heavy 255gr hard cast loads that i use for my carbine.
-Fit and finish are nice, and for what you pay for these I would expect no less.
-The top-break design lends itself to easy cleaning and the nickel finish provides a nice anti-rust factor as long as I use nickel-safe cleaning solutions.

    CONS:
-The stories about these not working well with black powder cartridge are entirely true...the gas ring when it was redesigned to longer calibers by Uberti is simply too short and allows fouling right into the arbor pin. After 1 full cylinder it was already choking and hanging up pretty terribly, causing timing to go out the window and making the gun hard to operate. This is a BIG bummer to me, as I load a lot of APP 45 Colts. I guess I will have to stick with the smokeless rounds for this one.

Overall, these are well made and rather historically accurate guns. It's silly to me that a gun that existed basically purely in the black powder cartridge days has a repro that does not take black powder cartridges...but most shooters will never load BP/sub rounds anyway...so this is a gripe to few people. Anyone else own one, original or repro? What are your thoughts on these? Cheers.

Try using Pyro P as it has a lot less fouling.

You mean like these? Pic does not to the charcoal blue justice, they are very bright BLUE in the sun. Usually my main match pistols at the monthly SASS match.

Cons- the extractor star can easily skip over the narrow rim of .45 Colt and it's a minor PITA to get the brass out.
There is a weird sort of but not quite transfer bar on the right side wall. When it gets dirty it can cause problems. You can safely remove it without affecting function.

It definitely doesn't have less fouling than American Pioneer does, APP has basically none and it gums up after 1 cylinder. I tried pyrodex cartridges years ago and I honestly didn't like the results, either.
