I usually assist one or two across the road every year around here. There's got to be a joke in there aside from me doing a box turtle's bidding.

One or two a year???

Try that every week in the swamp in May and June. The ones where there's not enough sight distance to safely stop get a little prayer. Not killing myself/someone else over them.
