Hold the presses, Val Forgett fabricating a back story for a firearm? Heresy!
Not that he's alone in this. Interarm ads for French Grey Ghost P38s claim they were found stored in submarine pens. Yeah, right...
So while the Type 84 isn't historical this puppy strikes me as a keeper, something that I'd bet over time will outpace normal firearm inflation.

Says that the magazine was “made to fit”. Does that mean that only that one magazine will work?

I think that lot of French-assembled Mauser P.38's were truly found in an old sub pen, but more because it was a convenient place to store them than any cool story though :) There actually were some rare ones, including FN slides, but the ad writer really went overboard (no pun intended).

The serial range may put it into the 50 year range but the modifcation was done in the late 1980's or early 1990's.

Since you can't prove the date it was modified, January 1st, 2044 is the earliest possible date for 50 year C&R eligibility- as 1993 is is when the Chinese imports ended.

I can't figure out why anyone would store a steel firearm in what I would expect to be a humid environment like a sub pen. Mind you mine is admittedly in excellent condition so if that's the case it was indeed carefully packed. Now I can brag it was used by the CRS and when it's ready to go to a new home, that alone should boost the asking price...:D

Frankly I think the ad writer's claims don't hold water. Probably pretty easy to sink the story.

    Also, isn't interarms underwater now?

Sorry, I really cannot let a good (or bad) pun sail right past me.

I had a couple of those back in the late '80's. NA, like Century Int'l, cobbed them together in their shop. Don't loose the mag they came with because you definitely have to do some work on the mags to get them to feed properly.
