I’m all signed up for the managed hunt program again. Took the Ruger American .350Legend to AGC, fired a few shots, and got my State Qualification card (required for managed hunts).

I love this Vortex scope I put on last year with its large objective and illuminated dot center reticle. Combined with my suppressor, it’s the envy of all dorchester county poachers. This blabbering old Fudd turned me onto this combo. Can’t be beat!

You should be able to shoot well past legal light with that scope! ;)

(relax everybody, it was an old joke...)

Yes lots of fawns. Park I walk in the evenings have non threatened deer. They’re not really afraid of the people cruising the paths. The other night we got close up on two does and three little spotted ones. Stopped and watched them from about 10 -15 yds away. Momma postured herself like she was gonna stomp my ass if I took one step towards one of her little ones. Wife and I chuckled about it as we went on our way.
Yeah, tons this year. Even at my old house/Ex’s I’ve noticed more than normal. My new place? Seems like every doe has twins trailing her around.

I am hoping to get out Wednesday. Looking like I need to bring my rain gear for my stand. I also need to tube up my climber. A lot of deferred maintenance on it because I’ve had the luxury of a ladder stand on my own property the last 5 years. I need to replace the shrink wrap on the cables finally.

Also need to get out behind my place and make sure the xbow is still zeroed!

Someone gave one a few years back. He shot it and was too embarrassed to take it home where his wife would see it. I found it to be very tender.....no surprise ....but very bland in flavor.
Only once for me. Super tender. Also bland. Meat wasn’t worth the effort. Now a late season button isn’t too bad as they’ve had more chance to put on some size. But the early season fawns are a pass for me.

    Just personal taste.

I think a late season button buck is the best venison there is taste wise. I know a few of you just gasped and grabbed your heart....lol

Thread drift……..Just heard from a buddy of mine, his youngest boy went bowhunting after work on Thursday at Severn Run Park, and found a dead body.

Had apparently been there for 3 months and there was a shotgun laying there. Awful. Not something a 17-18 yr old kid should be dealing with.

Edit: weird that I cannot find anything online about this. Neither my friend nor his kid would be inclined to make something like this up, so it’s weird that I don’t see anything in the media so far. Anyone hear anything about this?

Got one on the board for September. Nice fat older doe. One that has blown at me many times in the past. She turned facing towards after I was locked at full draw looking at me. Was initially perfect broadside. Went in high shoulder but took out heart and blew through 1 lung on exit. It was just soup in there.

Late season buttons are awesome. Physically almost a full sized doe depending on the area/when it was born and likely corn fed most of it's post weening life. No shame in ending the season with one.

shot this doe and the crossbow bolt must have broke. I heard a whack and saw the fletching, no blood trail but ran like her Azz was on fire. Blarely any blood the exit was breaking far leg bone and out the shoulder. Must have deflected on the side of a rib. By barely one spot in 75 yards or more and one leaf looks like it was stuck to her when she slide on the hill

Lost my favorite broadhead and bolt. Was the 4th deer with it and could not find any part of it. Trailed her more by all the paw paws saplings and limbs she broke than blood. Finally my buddies son has a bird dog and she found it in ten minutes. German short hair I think. After I spent well over an hour

She got blood all over the bed, tail gate and bumper. Guess the truck gets washed today.

Donation #1 to guy #1 which got a shoulder replacement and can’t hunt. Got to shoot more for him and then guy #2 likes one or two for jerky and such. Way too many does on the farm and got people to help out and earn karma so I can skip past the stairs to hell

Scouting today and unfortunately ran into this guy that got poached. My suspicion is someone from DorchesterCo went Overboard with their objective lens size. Such a shame.

I told the Ranger on duty and brought her to the site. She said they might put some game cameras on it for research. She was surprised the coyotes hadn’t ate it up yet, she said they were very prevalent in the park I was in. Also that poaching was common in that area :-(

    Poachers suck.

My buddy just found an smaller adult doe dead at the bottom of the woods access trail. Not skinny like CDW, no holes in her and nothing visibly killed her. Only about 150 yards at most from where I killed one in the morning. Makes me wonder if she died running with the herd I shot one out of.

Why do you think it was poached? Wouldn't the head be missing?

Just to play devil's advocate...wouldn't it be more likely that it was shot legally and they couldn't find it? I'd assume poachers would want the head and the meat...who shoots them just to shoot them?

It's really surprising what stories make headlines (or get any news coverage at all) and what don't. It's really very random. Even if it is a slow news day with two identical stories, one might get coverage and the other none.

Touche. I guess what I was getting at was more that folks who want to just shoot and waste them are less likely to be actually getting into the woods and working for it.
