more or less depending on the bullet, a bullet spins around 180,000 rpm. compared to an electric drill at around 2500 rpm.
Say a 30-06 with a 1-12 twist @ 3,000 fps. You could argue the bullet slows down and different twists and speeds. There's been much discussion in the shooting world about twist rates and the effect of expansion and killing power. You could argue that a bullet drills a hole.

Not really. It sounds plausible till you realize the bullet, no matter how fast, only makes one revolution Evey 10~15" of travel.
Its the high speed equivalent of an electric screwdriver being pounded with a big hammer to drill a screw in.

You can see the bullet right before it goes to sleep becomes unstable just like a top.
The small arms textbook explains all the rotational forces that act on bullets pretty well with the computations and formulas that prove it but in the video you can see it.
I bet in air that bullet would act or look like a corkscrew.

Interesting just how much energy is stored, and wasted, in rotation, and how little resistance to it there is in flight. We can stop ALL forward motion and still prove there is energy present.

Imagine an expanded hollowpoint spinning like a top as it progresses through flesh.

Someone must have a slo-mo of that sort of process in ballistic gel. I suppose the spinning would stop pretty quickly due to the resistance of meat or gel.

A 1:10 twist would only spin once through 10" of whatever if it retained it's original muzzle velocity. I'm too lazy to figure out how many turns it would make when it slows down, but if it went through at half MV, it would turn twice in 10".

They proved this one plausible on Mythbusters. It took them dozens of times with varying distances and angles before getting the spinning result. Due to editing, it looked like it took them all day to get it right.
