I only wish that so much of the stuff wasn’t so situational.
“It depends”… is unfortunately the best reasonable answer.
For most of the Tactical What If/ What would you do threads , with a hundred off the wall follow up sub questions , entirely this .
If I wasn't computer illiterate Luddite , I'd have a stand by cut & paste ( is that right term ) to the effect of :
* It depends . There are a myriad of situational factors , and it largely depends how they come together at that exact fraction of a second , as the Situiation unfolds . *
THIS discussion in this thread , is pretty unambiguous , with only rare exceptions .
The only pistol you own or have access is a 1st Gen Raven .25 ? That sucker needs to be carried chamber empty .
You the trainer for a 100 person untrained paramilitary unit . They are issued with 100 different design pistols . You have 3 minutes to instruct them , before they Parachute into Occupied France ( or modern equivalent ) .
You teach them quick & dirty Lowest Common Denominator stuff in that hour .
[ That seems off the wall , but there Is close historical Presecident .
Among his duties in WWll , then Lt Rex Applegate would have 1 hour to teach untrained OSS Agents pistol shooting , just before they got in the plane to jump behind German lines . This influenced his approach to pistol tactics and training , which is still noteworthy and influential today .]
