Actually, I heard somewhere that shots to the pelvis, providing they had enough energy and penetration to compromise the bone's structural integrity, can in fact be a really effective way to stop a threat. Might have been Mas Ayoob, now that I think about it.

Pelvic shots can be REALLY effective, takes away mobility - and can be a great avenue of bleeding out if you hit an artery.

I wouldn't personally rule out smaller calibers or lower-capacity guns just because of this article. It was more just to get people thinking about the situations that could be faced in a real scenario.

The opening barrage of this fight was simply the officer trying to put at many rounds at his adversary as possible (suppressive fire) as quickly as possible to give him some time to escape. He obviously scored several wounding shots, but it wasn't until he slowed down and took well-aimed shots that the fight was effectively finished.

Some of what I think this fight does go to prove:

    1. Well-aimed shots are key.
    2. There is no "wonder" caliber or "wonder" bullet. Handguns are the bottom-end of the terminal effectiveness scale.
    3. Capacity or the ability to reload quickly can make a difference.
