I have a Benelli M1 SBS. If I put a 28" barrel is there any legal issue with me bringing it to shoot sporting clays in Maryland?

    Thanks

I assume that you are talking about going across state lines to shoot clays. If so, DON'T bring the short barrel with you, and you should be fine. And I'm basing this off of a response from ATF to a letter asking essentially the same question about an SBR.

No I was just in Maryland. Did the ATF tell you to bring a copy of the paper work with you?

    Definitely not where you are!
If you put the shotgun in a non-SBS configuration (e.g. 18"+ barrel and 26"+ OAL) then you can bring it across state lines, even if it's registered as a SBS with the ATF. No Form 20 NFA transfer paperwork required. And yes, don't bring the shorter barrel with you.

Don't bring the shorter bbl with you , have waiting for you at destination , or otherwise do the *Intent* thing.
