Normally I wouldn't bump a thread this old but ive been using 2 different s&w knives fir edc using them frequently fir various tasks. The only problem I had was a couple of the screws getting loose and one of them fell out and I lost it. I sent an email with my address to customer service and received abag full of replacement screws and an a star wrench of the correct size in a day or two. I was very impressed with the cs I received and still carry these knives after 6 years.

    Sgt Preston here...

    I'm glad you asked...

I have in front of me a rugged folder with a nice pocket clip...

The blade is 3 1/4 long & it is half serrated & holds an edge fairly well...

The design is a liner lock...

    It's a S & W "Homeland Security" edition...

The blade says Hammer Forged Titanium 440 Steel & it's magnetic..?

    The blade also say:

    CK28BMS
    Bulleye ye CHINA

It's an OK back up knife & would do well in a jam as a self defense knife...

It is NOT a work of art...

And finally I don't think the words Homeland Security & CHINA provide belong together...

I think I paid $15 shortly after 911 at the Pikesville Gun Show (remember them..?)

It's a truck door pocket knife, nothing more...

BUT in all fairness has been an OK piece...

I'd say there are a few exceptions tho...while they are mainly budget imported knives made primarily to be cheap and have 'tactical' features for marketing, they do have quite a few knives well-suited for defense (such as their double-edged spear-point fixed blades which are dirt cheap and razor sharp). For heavier utility, I'm yet to see something that holds up to any satisfactory degree.

The other issue I have with them is that one can get a Spyderco Endura for $60 and Delica for even less...and compared to S&Ws offerings, the Delica/Endura are a few orders of magnitude greater blade, and the service life of a Delica is going to be quite a few times that of the S&W blades. Even the less expensive Spyderco Tenacious is a fantastic folder for the money and it competes with many of the mid-level Smiths in terms of price, but is a lot better of a knife.

Then there are S&W's 'flagships' at around $100...IMHO someone would be crazy to buy one. The ParaMilitary 2 and Ritter Griptilian are in the same price-point as the 'flagships', and comparing these two to anything S&W is laughable given the Para2 and Ritter put many folders costing twice as much or more to shame...
