I think this is it. The ejector rod and star look good. The cylinder release does not move.
Remember that I did not disassemble anything.

I just opened the cylinder on my GP100. The cylinder latch will not move with the cylinder open. Also the release pin in the recoil shield is flush with the face of the shield. Hope this helps.
Building on this, I just played with one of mine and, while the cylinder release is "dead" (meaning pushed in, not springy) with the cylinder open, if I push forward on the release (as in the flat, not serrated part more outboard), it pivots the whole thing out as though the cylinder was in and working right. There is very little spring tension to overcome. So...if your cylinder release does not move at all (even "backwards"), that would seem to narrow down your problem.

The other thing I did that made it not close was to push the crane forward. It actually moved more than I expected, but even a couple thou (like the thickness of some crud or a brush bristle or string from a patch) forward made it every hard to close and it wouldn't latch.

Keep fiddling and keep us posted.

Update: The cylinder issue was resolved with a tiny bit of file work at the front of the cylinder. I know Ruger tolerances can be tight, but I have no idea why this became an issue after a few years.

On getting the pistol home, I noticed another issue. The hammer would not lock back for single action operation. After educating the shop guys on how a double action revolver works. (They had checked the Ruger website that discussed the very smooth double action trigger and assumed that it was only double action. They checked videos and there was Hickock45 with his thumb on the hammer.)

The gunsmith discovered a reversed hammer spring. Probably installed by me several years ago, A gunsmith at Scott's installed the other spring.

All I know is the hammer now locks back better then it ever did, I'm happy again.

p.s. RS Shooting is a pretty nice shop!

I never knew this place existed. I think I will put it on the stop list for the return trip from The Bagery. :party29:

Ruger has a lifetime warranty of the product for future reference...would likely not have not charged you a cent to fix it if you sent it to them. I've used their "warranty" at least 3 times and never paid a dime...and they always came back with extras.

Now that you've permanently altered it outside of them....they might no be so lenient.
