I’m looking for an optic for a 10/22 build for Steel Challenge. I’ve been looking at the Holosun 510c and the C-more railway. Any opinions would be appreciated. I’m new to Steel Challenge and open to other options. Thanks

I've used both extensively in this context. You will not go wrong either way, and I've seen pictures of Grant Kunkel winning big with both. I think the C-More presents a better sight picture (in the sense that it's the most "open") and has some useful customizability, but you can get the 510C with a green reticle, and I must admit I find those very pleasant to use. Keep in mind that both of them are going to be very high on a stock 10/22; you will need to figure out how to raise your stock's comb somewhat (either via riser or cheek pad or whatever).

You should follow that up with a better trigger (Kidd or VQ), better stock (Blackhawk or Modshot), and a lighter barrel (such as a Wiland or Taccom, assuming you're not using irons). The name of the game is speed, and a lighter gun is faster for RFRO.

Thank you both for the info. Sounds like both will work well. Any thoughts on the 507c since it would sit much lower? Or is the window too small for this purpose?

There is an easy way to put a comb on your 10/22. I just did it on mine so I could use a higher red dot sight. Here is an example, there are several others. Installation took about a half hour.

I personally think the 507C is smaller than I'd want. Leupold DPP, Triji SRO, Romeo3 Max, etc. might be usable, though.

ETA: I fully expect Holosun to come out with an SRO-sized window MRDS in a year or two.

I think it depends on how your eyes work. I don't like speed shooting looking down a tunnel and that is what almost all the sights that are not mini red dots or C-Mores are, at least to my perception. With only a couple of exceptions all my sights are mostly C-Mores, 5 at last count, and a Trijicon, a Burris, a Vortex, and one other. All of them are setup with the biggest dots they come in, well the RMR is only 9 MOA and they do come in up to 13 MOA, but I wanted a green dot.

I have the 10/22's bigger brother, the PCC. I got an Eotech as the window is bigger than the other options and the circle-dot helps out a lot. I will get another one for my Winchester Wildcat when Quantico starts Steel Challenge matches on Saturday again.

If the C-More ARW had a green dot module option, it would be the hands-down winner for me. No question whatsoever. The HS510C does have slightly more of a tunnel, but it's really hard to argue with the results.
