Got my retro upper from JSE today. I replaced the BCG with a chrome no-grooves BCG from Brownells. Slick side upper with no forward assist. Shown on a pre-13 lower.

Lot's of incorrect things; wrong grip and butt stock (both A2). No peel washer with the flash hider. Lower needs to be a slabside. Or maybe a partial fence for an Air Force model (604). Barrel is 1 in 7 not 1 in 12 twist.

I like an A1 style upper, but the pre A1 w/o the FA is just fine. This upper is much lighter than my A4 upper. When I retire out of state one day I will try to build a more correct lower.

Plenty of Slick Side upper rifles came new from Colt with grooved bolt carriers .
. Colt was big on using whichever functional parts were on hand that particular day .

Nice looking even if not completely authentic. It brings back some old memories.

very nice. I need to build one of those. My HB A2 is such a pig compared the the original A1 designs.

Yeah - I guess an Air Force model can even have the full fence - heck they may have even added the bird cage flashhider - IDK. Weren't these slick sides use by the Air Force into the 1980's? I'll have to do more research. Yeah I do like the light weight.

M16 (Air Force), M16A1 (Army) use a split washer not a peel washer.

Get the files out and some green paint for the 601 look.

Look around here if you want to feed the sickness:
    01 (601) stuff

Yeah the ONLY bright side to all of the MD gun laws; I am unable to spend even more money than I am now on retro :)
