I have a Finn marked Carcano M38 Short Rifle that has had the stock cut down and front hardware is gone. They also chucked the buttplate and put a rubber recoil pad on. This isn't my rifle but mine was cut down exactly like this picture.

I like this rifle and it's a good shooter so I am thinking about buying a replacement stock and parts to get it back to proper configuration.

I see Liberty tree has stocks for sale, they sound pretty rough. 145 bucks.

Sarco has some for 85 and I'm thinking of going this route.

The front barrel band and the bayo lug are separate. I can get the front band with the two screws, but what holds the bayonet lug on? Is there a separate screw?

    I can't find a proper schematic..

Has anyone bought a stock for one of these from Liberty Tree or Sarco?

    Thanks for any help...

It's been a number of years since I de-bubba'd my 91/38. IIRC the bayonet lug is held in place by a nose cap screw.

If you can find one of the NOS stocks it will likely be pretty dry. I think I got mine from Sarco back then. I used leather dye to get some of the original color into the replacement stock. It soaked up BLO like a sponge.

If Springfield Sporters is still around - that's where I found all the parts I needed.

Here are a couple of links that may help.

It was a fun project. Good luck on yours.

Thanks for the help. Yours looks nice!

Springfield Sporters has good prices on the hardware so I'll go with them, unfortunately no stocks.

I think I'll roll the dice with Sarco on the stock. I could always wait and watch Ebay but I'm sure it would cost me...

These are handy little rifles, not sure why they had such a reputation for being junk.
