Another legal option is to explain your situation to the seller and ask if they will allow you to pay for the auction, then hold the pistol for you and ship it after your C&R comes through and you can send them the paperwork.

[Edit] I see that Boom Boom already mentioned this. It's up to the seller to decide if they are willing to hold it. As long as the firearm isn't actually transferred, there's no breaking of the law. The law isn't about intent for the future or an exchange of money. The law is about the exchange of the firearm.

The easiest way to do this yourself is to buy it and ship it to Bollingers like a normal handgun. $30 regulated transfers for MDShooters members, and they do an 8 day release. Then it's 100% legal and in your hands before the end of the month.

Although there are many other scenarios in theory, the only legal way to do it is to buy it yourself. You'd be paying a $10 transfer fee at the MSP barracks under your original strategy anyway, so by getting someone else involved, you'd only be saving $20, while adding risk.

Which leads to the other big question, is this gun on the MD handgun roster? If it's not, then don't bother with what I just said about buying it yourself, you won't be able to transfer it as a normal handgun. Someone else can chime in if there's a year cut off that i'm unaware of that would make this legit to transfer.

If you don't have a C&R, and it's not the handgun roster, you're down to having the seller hold it until your 03FFL arrives, or waiting until you have the 03FFL and looking for another one.
