04-17 February Harbor Freight Tools is having a 50% Sale. Digital Calipers $14.99. 5lb Tumbler $45.99

There is usually a 20% off coupon in the NRA magazine to save even more on one item.

I buy my calipers when they are on sale or I have a coupon for $9.99. I buy three at that price. If you use them frequently, you will need the spares. Don't ask how I know. :innocent0

Are the calipers actually decent/accurate enough to use? Was about to get a set of digital fowlers.

In some of my past lives, I have been a machinist and gunsmith ( a real one, not a gun assembler)

I still have a couple of good Starrett and Brown and Sharp micrometers and calipers as well as the standards that you check them with. I have only had one of the cheap Chinese calipers fail the repeatability test when first bought.

However, if you use them frequently, I would say that you should use a substitute standard so you can check it periodically. Since they only measure down three places, you can use a 1/16 to 1/2 inch drill bit set as long as you measure them and record their measurements. Then, periodically, check the calipers as they will wear and start to loose their ability to repeat measurements. I can usually get two years of good use from them.

This is why I buy three when they are on sale for $9.99. :D

I found the Tumbler online and it looks good - Question for you guys that bought it though. It looks like the price online does not reflect the discount mentioned above. When you go to the store do you have to have a coupon? or is the price marked at 45.99 at the store?

I've been using a Harbor Freight digital caliper for several months now. I have a nice expensive caliper also. I check the HF one from time to time against the expensive one and it's stayed true.

    I love Harbor Freight.

At the LaVale HF store, there was no sale or reduced price tag on the 5 pound tumbler (MSRP $99.99). At the cash register, the price was reduced to $45.

This tumbler is working just fine, although I was surprised that the directions called for only dry media.

    I'd recommend it.
