Which means the cases are being stretched beyond their useful malleable limits. Hence, short reloading life. Brass cases are cold drawn, steel cases are heat drawn, an even have a collar to help in the drawing process. Then it is cut off. I did a search, interesting but not plentiful. Most of the steel case dialogues center aroind this very subject, application and reloadability.

Jack O'Conner yeas back dveloped a 2 piece case. The case head was steel with a brass body screwed onto it. This would give the strength of the steel in the critical head area and the malleability and sealing of the brass body. Obviously the concept didn't take hold.

    Sgt Preston here...

    Lets talk economics...

Scrap Brass is currently selling for about $2 a pound...

Scrap Steel is selling for $0.30 a pound...

There is a lot of difference between the price of Steel & Brass...

Manufacturing is all about making money...

One way of reducing manufacturing costs is to use the cheapest possible material...

But the recipe for GOOD AMMO calls for Brass not Steel...

If Steel was as good as Brass, all ammo would be Steel Cased...

I'm 69 & never saw Steel cased ammo until 10 years ago, when 3rd world countries began exporting it to America...

3rd world countries are only interested in selling cheaper stuff than we can make here, think Dollar Stores...

Yes it definitely does go bang, but just think about it...

Why for example if both are equal, doesn't our government /military specify steel cases..?

If you are going to reload, reload your brass cases...

It's not rocket science, it's just common sense...

The way I got around Berdan primers was I would drill a flash hole but not through the primer with my drill press. Then I would press and decrimp as normal.

Or it might have been simpler if you just reloaded a regular Boxer Primed Brass Case in the first place...
