So I bought a r700 5r308 action, barrel and bolt today and would like some thoughts on bottom metal.
I have two different HS stocks, one inlet is for normal factory style bottom metal, the other is opened up a bit for what I'm guessing would be a magazine fed bottom metal.

As always I'm a how far can my dollar go kinda guy, but will spend money on quality stuff. I really don't see the big deal with mag feeding this rifle, so let's say you needed action screws, bottom metal and Internal magazine parts what would you get and why?

I'm half tempted to just search for some take off parts but would like to hear others opinions.

There are several aftermarket bottom metal styles and your stock may be cut for any one of them. Badger Seekins, HS precision and others....

Assuming your 5R is NOT a "DM*" model (not sure if they ever did that in a DM), if you want to put OEM bottom metal back in, you'll need:

    Mag box
    Follower
    Spring
    BDL style bottom metal/floorplate assembly.
    Action screws**

For the 5R factory chambered in .308, all of your bottom metal will need to be for the "short action".

Epoxy (like MarineTex) to bed/stabilize the OEM bottom metal in what will be an oversize cutout if you use the stock that was opened up.

*= The factory 'DM' (detachable magazine) action lacks feedrails and will need to stay with a detachable magazine (which has it's own feed lips to guide cartridges).

**= Make sure your action screws are not too long.

You may have to live with what you can get. While parts for plastic guns are readily available, the parts for steel and wood guns are drying up, especially Remington parts. You can try Brownells, Midwest Gunworks, GPC etc. but they are drying up too.

Thanks E! I was hoping you would comment on here. Great point on feed rails, I didn't even think of that.

If your gun is long action, I have a spare factory bottom metal assembly.
Unfortunately it's a short action 308. I robbed stuff off my 300wsm so I can test the rifle.

I'm about to rob a swfa 10x off my 6.5 Creedmoor and waiting on some rings to get here. I want to test the rifle before throwing money at it.

This M700 short action has been fitted with PTG bottom metal to accept AICS mags.

Besides the bottom metal part (was $99 on sale) all that was needed was two Rem thread type allen head screws. (I have lots that can be trimmed to size - PM me if you need a couple.)
