This coming Saturday, October 23rd, Stemmers Run is having another bowling pin match from 1200 until 1500 at the Associated Gun Clubs pistol range in Marriottsville. Anyone is welcome to come, you do not have to belong to the club or have an AGC range badge so if you've been thinking about checking out AGC this is a great opportunity to do so and maybe win a little money.

The entry fee is 5 dollars and we have 6 divisions:
    -Open Semiauto Centerfire
    -Limited Semiauto Centerfire
    -Open Revolver
    -Limited Revolver
    -Open Rimfire
    -Limited Rimfire

We shoot at polymer knock down targets shaped like bowling pins from 25 feet. Since they are polymer knock downs we don't want to tear them up so no wadcutters or hollow point rounds are permitted, it's round nose only. No 357 or 44 magnums either, but that's also for your own good as they go too fast and won't knock them down. Your best bet is slow and heavy with 40 or 45, though 22's will easily knock them down if you hit in the right spot.

Each shooter gets 5 heats per entry (you can enter multiple times in the same or different division) where you shoot at 6 bowling put cutouts. You are limited to 6 rounds per magazine but you can have as many magazines as you want, this puts folks with subcompacts on the same turf as those with high capacity double stacks. We time each heat and average them. The person with the best time in their division wins half of the entry fees. It's a fun day and a great introduction to shooting and reloading on the clock.

For those wondering, we do have new pins!

I'm thinking about a frostbite version come late november/early december. Instead of bowling pins you'd be shooting at Snowman cutouts, maybe keep it a 50/50 but instead of the winner taking half it goes to wounded warrior. Is this anything folks would be interested in?

The more matches Stemmers can run, the better. Having a 50/50

payout is a good "magnet" for both new and old shooters. If the

pin matches are a viable money maker for the club, then run them

more often. Also, Jay Green ran 200 yard prone matches, both rim

fire and center fire, years ago at AGC. He paid out cash/reloading

related prizes. Can we bring these back for 2011? Having a any gun/

any sight match was a very good venue fo this type of rifle shooting.

Cold weather does not stop Monumental R&P Club, as they run two

matches every month of the year. More match dates has to help

with the membership. Can the scores from Oct. 23 be posted here

by one of the Stemmers members?

    Two questions.

    1. Most of my handguns shoot FMJ flat points. Are these okay for this shoot?

    2. Is there a possiblity for a side Shotgun match?

    Thanks!

For future shoots like this yes, FMJ flat points are ok since that's pretty much all you can get for .40, just no hollow points or straight wadcutters, they have to be conical at the least.

Unfortunately we won't be having a shotgun match to accompany it, as great as it would be the AGC rules just don't have enough bend to them for us to run something like that yet.
