First time deer hunter and looking for decent public to hunt which i know can be pretty hit or miss especially with all the fudds hitting the woods during rifle season. i am willing to travel pretty far in the state. not looking for any secret locations just a starting on some public land that could be productive and i am willing to hike to get away from everyone else

How about where you are to start with. I've hunted Patuxent state park, Potapsco state park and Nanticoke for deer (plus one time private land). I've also hunted Hugg Thomas just for squirrels. Nanticoke has struck out for me two years in a row (I've come close and seen deer there), the others have all produced.
