Maryland: Anne Arundel County Proposes New Ordinance on Discharging Firearms

On September 5th, 2023, the Anne Arundel County Council proposed Bill 72-23, “to increase the distance a person must be from human occupied or used structures or camps” to be able to legally discharge a firearm. The proposed bill will increase the current distance of 100 yards up to 300 yards, tripling the distance one must be from a “human-occupied or used” location to discharge firearms. The bill maintains the current exemptions for lawful shooting ranges, persons in possession of deer management permits, or persons with written permission from the owner/occupant/lessee of the location.
A public hearing for the bill has been set for Monday, October 2nd, during the County Council’s meeting. To speak at the meeting or submit written testimony regarding this bill, please Click Here and fill out the participation forms.
Please encourage your friends, family members, and fellow gun owners to oppose this ordinance and submit their own testimony to the County Council regarding this bill. Stay tuned to the NRA-ILA website and your inbox for future updates.

Even the Fudd's can protest this, finally something they can rally against.

This is a solution to no problem and a continuation of challenging gun owners and laws

In her comments the primary sponsor stated that her original intention was to make the setback distance 1.5 miles, but she decided that was too much of a stretch and wouldn't fly.

We need to plan a turnout, and everyone planning to attend should register to testify.

I heard a rumor from a reliable source that the bill would be withdrawn. It seems like the best criticism of this bill is that it's just a "more is better" argument and the law change is arbitrary with no basis in reality or safety. Politicians like to be seen as hard on gun violence these days and this is just more political theater that they think will help get council members reelected. We get the government we deserve when 2A people are apathetic and let stand all the misinformation about firearms that is constantly bombarding the public.

If they hold public comment on this bill SHOW UP and testify that it's an arbitrarily meaningless act.
