Was a different powder used in the different cartridges? That's probably the only way. Some primers have a different color inside the primer cup that might be distinguishable. I've used re primed primers before, but not in any kind of quantity. Be careful.My friend reloaded 1200 9mm’s for my pistols using “rifle” primers he thought would work. Some went boom, but far more misfired. There are light indents on all casings.
Unfortunately, I dumped the bad ammo into a large container which mixed with good stuff.
Bottom line - any suggestions how I might ID rifle primers? They look all alike to me.
