They don’t need reasons. They are (mostly) rabid anti-gunners who will infringe at every opportunity and then some.

Hmmm, no arrest made according to the report. That implies he was lawfully carrying.
I think there was no arrest because he was not apprehended, not because he was lawfully carrying. Even a lawful carrier would be in violation of several laws in this case.

The news report doesn’t jive with your statement. They know who it is and don’t have charges they can charge him with.

Which laws do you think he violated?

In their investigation, police said they reviewed video that showed an individual accidentally discharge a firearm in the food court. They are still looking for the person who had the weapon.

    There were no injuries reported.

Police said the investigation will continue.

Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman issued a statement on the incident: "Three months ago, the Supreme Court made it more dangerous to go to the mall in America. The NYSRPA vs. Bruen decision made it easier to carry guns in public places, and Maryland followed suit, removing the 'good and substantial reason' that had been required to obtain a concealed carry permit. The following month, concealed carry permit applications in Maryland soared by 700% compared to the same month in 2021.

"Today, we saw what happens when more guns are present in our communities. Families enjoying a meal in the food court at Arundel Mills experienced the terror of not knowing whether they would be the latest victims of a mass shooting. People fled, people were hurt, all because a firearm went off in a crowded public space. My heart goes out to everyone present for this incident - nobody should have to go through what you did today.

"For four years, I have made it a priority to put in place common-sense local policies to prevent gun violence and death in Anne Arundel County. We have one of the best Police Departments in America, and from 2018-2021, every category of crime fell by ten percent or more. In June, our Gun Violence Intervention Team issued its strategic plan - read it at www.aahealth.org/GVIT.

"But today, I am angry. Politicians glorify guns to get votes, the Supreme Court takes away our right in Maryland to pass and enforce our own gun permitting laws, and the result is terror.

"I will stand with our law enforcement community and push back against this idea of promoting guns in public places. It’s dangerous and it’s stupid."

    This report will be updated.

Newbies, please keep your booger-hook off the bang switch.

And MGA does not need a reason to infringe, they always have meetups on how they can move their ball up the field.

My first thought was that this isn't good for us (after it was clear no one was hurt and the police were saying it was clearly an accident). This will of course be pointed to by all the anti-gunners as proof that shall issue is a bad idea and that the MGA needs to put up every restriction that the courts will allow. They were already going to try to push the envelope and see what will be allowed under the current courts, now they are more likely to be successful.

The second thing I was thinking was, I thought back to my training class for W&C. The vast majority there had little or no gun handling experience. For many, their only prior experience was taking the HQL class and shooting up to a mag in that class, and then buying a gun (which they've never shot).

I was also thinking about how much of a waste of time that W&C class was. I disapprove of a 16 hour classroom requirement, but if they will have such a requirement, lets make some use of it. Most of the time we were just sitting around, the actual content could have been delivered in somewhere between 2-4 hours. We spent maybe 10-20 minutes total in the training company's simulator, and the only range time was for the 25 qualification rounds. Given the number of sheer newbies, maybe they should actually spend an hour or two going over gun safety (with us actually handling real but unloaded firearms or at least the plastic/rubber fake training guns and with an opportunity to demonstrate safe gun handling), then require some number of rounds (100, 200?) fired in at least a simulator, and preferably practice rounds at the range. If we are going to be required to spend that much time in a training class, then at least have some practical instruction that might help in avoiding similar situations.

Besides reckless endangerment? Unlawful discharge of a firearm perhaps, unlawful discharge of a firearm within city limits...perhaps?
