Thanks. Updated with Jones for PG County Sheriff

To be clear, the suggestion to take a look at Jones is based on an initial assessment of one person - me.

To the best of my knowledge, Sheriff High hasn't been given the opportunity to state his case.

Thanks, will update post. On this DINO thread I have become use to seeing 0 or 1 good option. Speaks volumes about the Democratic party

I can only look through so many of these candidates websites and facebook pages before I want to vomit. This is vile stuff.

If you get on a gun grabbing Dem's snail mail list, pass along the literature to their pro-2A opponent... makes for good intel to see what the other side is saying.

I understand the "don't vote for the incumbent" aspect, but I'm left with a lingering question:
Are we voting for the least-potential-damage candidate?
or Are we voting for the wing-nut candidate such that he/she is easier to swat down in the November election?

I expect the answer to be "it depends." Playing the latter option seems higher risk; I'm inclined to bias toward the former.

I'm currently working through some of the more local candidates, as there is only a single (D) candidate in my Senate and House districts.

It's been discussed throughout the several threads, but yes... each race will be different.

It does depend, but our primary focus is ousting anti-2A incumbents, even if replacing a bad apple with a bad apple. They ignored 4 thousand of us in Annapolis, and we promised to see them go. We need to keep that promise or be ignored again.

Thanks. I've tried to keep up with the discussions, but I didn't see a lot of overall strategy items.

As mentioned, the (D) candidates in District 4 are running solo. Here are some local Frederick County picks. Unfortunately, several of the candidates don't have websites or strong media presence. My recommendations are bolded. My distilled comments are included, with references where I could find them:
    Frederick County Local Elections

    County Executive
    Jan Gardner - www.jangardner.org
    (no other Dems)

County Council At Large (vote for 2)

    Susan Reeder-Jessee - http://www.susanreederjessee.com/
    - BS,MBA, small business owner, focus on economic growth
    Linda Norris - www.lindanorrisforcouncil.com
    - independent PR writer, not a big fan of Monrovia Town Center
    - mentions economic and infrastructure dependencies
Steve Bruns - www.stevebrunsforfrederick.com (website is a disaster)
    - arrested for protesting Dominion Resources 'Cove Piont' at Courthouse
    - - sentenced to 24hrs community service
    - member of Occupy Frederick
    - promoted "Justice for Trayvon" hoodie-march in 2013
    Whitney Duck - www.whitneyduckforfrederick.org
    - husband Andrew Duck (ran for House of Reps) supports gun control restrictions and obamacare
    Dave Twigg - http://www.davetwigg.org/
    - solution: leverage "best and brightest"

    County Council District 2
    Stacey Van Veen - http://staceyvanveen.org/
    - opposes incinerator
    - opposes Monrovia Town Center for economic, infrastructure and permitting reasons
Pamela Abramson - pamabramson.org (2 mos. old, inactive)
    - opposes incinerator, Monrovia Town Center
    Annette Breiling - www.breiling4frederick.com
    - started Sandy Spring and Friends Meeting Schools
    - wants more public transportation (not sure where the expanded budget comes from)
    - idealistic environmentalist
    - - proposes 60mph speed limit for "greater fuel efficiency" (no citation)
    - - wants charging stations at key locations for electric cars (no mention of improved power infrastructure)
    - - proposes redirecting stormwater management funds toward "green" initiatives

In this state, it will be both. As blue as Maryland is, there's no guarantees that a Repub or Conserv candidate will win regardless of DINOs efforts. In many races such as Gov, AG for example, it will be voting in the primary for the one who is least objectionable, i.e. Cardin, just to keep Frosh out. Even if Braveboy aligns her views closer to ours, she has little chances of winning and if we split our votes between her and Cardin then Frosh likely wins. Same for Gov- if we split between Gansler and Mizeur then Brown likely wins. Mizeur hasn't got a good chance so vote for Gansler in the primary.

Same can be said for voting for non-existent write ins when there are more than 1 candidate running. It will favor the incumbent. Even if 'John Galt' gets a majority of votes somewhere, the incumbent will likely come in second and be declared the winner. Write ins only send a message when there's no challenger. BUT, where there's no challenger, he's the man!

Thanks for the additional information! The more everyone can learn about the process the better. That knowledge will help people work the system to our advantage.

Thanks! Yes, hearing them and people across the state ask "Who is John Galt?" would be pretty good :) Also, it makes it a bit more fun and gives people a chance to openly show dissatisfaction with the candidate options.

Thanks for the additional information. Yep, I am sure she will take great joy from placing 2A-friendly bills in the garbage.

Hi, and welcome to the party! This thread is more than just who to not vote for. We are voting for Cardin AG, Gansler governor, and then people in specific districts will vote on their candidates as shown. More research is in another thread - http://www.mdshooters.com/showthread.php?t=147366 , and more research is needed to complete recommendations. Read the other thread, and post up which districts you will help to research. Thanks.
Also - if you have a specific question about a district, post it up and maybe someone will be able to help.

    TS;
Thanks for the clarification. There seems to be so many threads about the primaries, who to vote for/who not to vote for, etc. that it was getting a little confusing. Now, not so much! :D

Hope you noticed the very first day/page of this current post. It is maintained daily by the good man TopShelf with a list of our unified decisions on whom to vote for for each race and in each district.

Tons of info out there. If any of it look inaccurate, or you have question after looking it over, post into the threads. People will answer as best they can. Together we are able to reach consensus on many things, however not all is 100% decided or without tradeoffs.

Thanks :) Just to clarify - I don't think the OP's have been updated daily, however as of late it is close to that.

I appreciate your comments, but I've read most of the entire thread. However, it's not 'maintained daily', and I've not yet noted, for example, a recommendation regarding AG for those who've not been able to keep up. Fortunately, I'm am familiar with that race. Some of us cannot spend our entire days on the forum but I have noticed that some folks haven't grasped the concept of the DINO movement (" why vote for Gansler, he's anti-gun?"), that there were many threads on the primaries going on simultaneously not necessarily with the same info, and there were many ongoing discussions on whom to vote and why. To me it was getting confusing and I especially was concerned about the DINO's splitting votes to the point of making them worthless, allowing the incumbents to walk back in. As I noted in my last response, 'now, not so much'.

If you have time to research the people running for membership on the democratic central committee from each district, you may find that there is some infighting internal debate going on. Instead of three candidates for three slots, you might find five candidates (two of which are incumbent from 2010) competing for three slots, as in District 31. Or there might be unexpected entries onto the ballot, like in District 33.

Current elected central committee members by county then district: http://msa.maryland.gov/msa/mdmanual/40party/html/deml.html

Candidates can be located by county under "Local Offices" here: http://www.elections.state.md.us/elections/2014/primary_candidates/index.html or for the brave who want to sort spreadsheets, a CSV of all local candidates is here: http://www.elections.state.md.us/elections/2014/primary_candidates/gen_listings_2014_1__by_county_ALL.csv

I think that it is important to provoke promote healthy debate. The leadership of the party is only as good as we make it. ;)
