I was able to watch the 11:00 showing with my eldest son. The one thing I did not know and got from the show was that some of the 1891 Mosins from US manufacturers never made it to Russia. Is there a way to tell from stampings if they made it to Russia for WWI?
Well, there's not really any particular Russian acceptance stamp on the metal to signify a particular rifle made it to Russia like on the '95 Winchester contract muskets. Each rifle will make a case for itself.
That being said, if you find one that has been US surcharged-it makes a pretty good argument for having remained in US hands. Ironically, with the Polar Bear Expedition, it could have remained in US hands, surcharged, AND still have made it to Russia...and left behind!
