Forgot to mention I have a bag of plated DEWC's from Rainier Ballistics from back in the day. I only tried a few of them as they mostly keyholed and I didn't try to figure out why. There is no clear base. Anyone got an answer to keyholing?

38 Special is somewhat marginal as a defensive round out of a short barrel.
I'm not sure that Lee Harvey Oswald would agree with you.

My 2" K frame likes most +P+ JHPs. It is about all I keep on hand except for my reloads. Best for penetration and expansion from a short barrel, IMO.

If I need to use any handgun for self defense, I want it to pack as much punch as possible.

How's your hand like them? :innocent0
The Pachmayr grip made a world of difference. Greatly reduced the muzzle flip and gave me much better contol of the weapon. I really don't have a problem shooting them and why I bought a .38 instead of a .357 magnum. I did not want the temptation.

Back in the '90's a friend bought a S&W 340 PD. This has the Scandium frame and titanium cylinder and is chambered in .357. He then persuaded all of his friends to come and shoot the new gun. One round was enough for me to say NO MORE.

I was thinking of trying Berry's plated 38 Special DEWC over 4.0 grains of Winchester 244 for around the farm. I know that the plating isn't very thick but it should eliminate the problems with leading.

You definitely won't get leading as long as you don't cut the jacket. I use a taper crimp die as a roll crimp will bite into the jacket.
