    Howdy, all!

Resident gun addict and constant schemer checking in.

I’ve a nice .223 bolt gun listed a couple spots and of course you know I’m scheming on my un-accrued “income” from said sale.

I’ve tossed a couple ideas around my head to include a new HD shotgun set up, suppressor takticool gear for the AP5-p But right now?? I think light has shone through this clouded situation.

I reckon it’s time for a partner to my Vaquero which at this moment is being made right by Jeff Ault.

So brings us to the modern made 1892 Short Rifle by Winchester Repeating Arms. I see they mention the tang is tapped, which is lovely. I would plan to order a marbles tang rear for it. Don’t think I need the extension tube / set screw just yet for that .45. Anyone familiar with adding a marbles to their ‘92 or similar? Would yall recommend a different front sight? I initially would plan to get a 50yd zero on the tang sight and learn my 100y hold. It would primarily serve as a paper puncher but also fill woods roles down here amongst the pines and swamp. Namely a hog hunt this coming late winter / spring.

With selling the rifle would come letting the optic rings and accoutrement to be sold as well, thusly freeing up some funds for a keg of powder, some extra brass to add to the pile, and maybe another case of primers or two. Of COURSE my friend who’s also a commercial caster up in PA would hook me up with a thou or more 255LSWC.

    So, yeah….that’s the story.

Money talks! Found a listing of a Carbine for sale that comes in $40 less than the Short Rifle. That’s transfer cost and a little extra for a chicken sandwich from Parker’s Kitchen.

Have a buyer for my Tikka rifle, scope and accessories listed for sale and *shouldn’t* be too much issue to sell. Priced to move. With the proceeds?? That aforementioned Carbine, Marbles tang rear and folding barrel rear. (1,000) 255LSWC BB, 4# WIN231, case of CCI 300’s and (400) new Starline to add to my pile.

Hoping it’ll prove to be a decent 50-100yd hunting carbine. We’ll get it situated for a hog hunt this late winter early spring with a group of guys.

Ha! You’re not kidding! They’re a great gun, though!

Tikka hit the mail in one direction, 1892 gonna hit the mail in my direction soon. Found a carbine at a good price and took it. 255LSWC over 7gr WIN231 will do just fine on pigs and Bambi anywhere.

The Winchester has landed. Went ahead and mounted the tang sight and folding barrel sight. No stress no problems. Everything fit right up. I did make sure to have the proper screw set from marbles regarding tang and set screws. Think it’s #3??

I’m for sure going to be adding at taller staff to the rear sight. I think their “mid-range” model will get me where I want to be. The one that comes factory is maxed out and much too low already. Have an order to place with midway for some primers and other things coming up, so I’ll add that to the list as well.
Handy little carbine! Terrific bluing and polish, fitment of metal to wood is very tight. Action is smooth, trigger firm but predictable. Think this will do nicely once we get the tang sight where it needs to be!

Took the ‘92 to the indoor range just to get my sights centered, barrel sight and tang sight are good to go. Just need a time to get to the outdoor range and really shoot it. It was only 25y and cloverleafing was too easy seated leaned across my
Book bag at the shooting bench. Off hand at 25y produced 3.5" groups with the occasional flier. Need to work on my stance and breath control. Dry fire will be a great assistance here. Seemed to really like the bullets I use, .452, cast by my friend in PA. He’s a commercial caster with good prices and bullets. Seemed like to my 7.5gr unique loads well enough. Happy is as happy does!
