    Hi, there,

My name is Matt, and I am a 30-something government worker who currently lives in Arlington, VA. I am also recently engaged to my fiancé of two years. While I am excited for this next chapter in my life, the bad news for me is that moving in with my fiancé means leaving the 2A-friendly haven of VA to live in the less gun-friendly Rockville/North Bethesda area of Maryland (I expect to formally change my residency early next year).

I've been preparing for this move for the better part of a year. As a VA resident, I've developed an extensive collection of handguns, as I enjoy collecting 1980s and 1990s-vintage Wonder Nines (Beretta 92F, SIGs, 2nd Gen Glocks, etc.) A few years ago, I also got bitten by the AR-15 bug and now own four AR lowers and five uppers. My favorite AR is my Daniel Defense M4A1; I recently took the upper to Engage Armament to have the Gov-profile barrel replaced by a heavy SOCOM barrel from a Brownell's custom URG. I also have a BCM Recce-14 upper that I expect to get the MD-compliant treatment from the kind folks at Engage. (My other uppers, a Colt M4A1 SOCOM upper and two Olympic Arms uppers, have heavy barrels already.)

Hope to become a member of this community and learn more about the in's and out's of being a gun owner in Maryland.

    Regards,

    - Matt

Thank you! And yes, I hate having to leave VA - I have been an Arlington resident for 9 years and never wanted/planned to leave.

Curious to know what the handgun registration experience for new MD residents is like? I've been on the MSP web site and looked at it, but curious to know what others have experienced.

Welcome from Columbia, enjoy your stay!
I see you’ve already discovered one of the best shops around in Engage.

You're already addressing your AR issues .

The registration is straight forward (presuming you don't have any Actually Banned handguns , but that's extremely unlikely .)

The Carry Permit process will be very different , but since 6/23/ 22 it is actually possible for Joe Blow

It it too late to induce your fiancee to move to Arlington ? They're both close in 'burbs of same metro area , with equivalent Snoot Factors .

    ****************

Just being humorously grammatically picky :)

" Recent Fiancee of Two Years " , and scratching my head .

Is an Engagement of two years " recent " ?

Or are you just now recently engaged to the young lady with whom you've been dating for two years prior to popping the question ?

Point taken on my grammar fail. :D And yes, I meant to say I've been with my lady for two years, but we only just recently got engaged.

No, I don't have any banned handguns. I do own a Steyr SPP, which for some reason was not stricken from the roster back when the state banned "assault pistols" (whatever those are).

I tried to convince her to come to Arlington, but I own a tiny one-bedroom condo, whereas she had a much larger 2-bedroom unit. And we have a dog. Wouldn't have worked for this move. Maybe someday when we buy a house, I'll talk her into moving back across the border.
