Captain Walter F. Baker, USN (Ret) was commissioned in the Navy in 1954. He served on Destroyers, Amphibious and Surface Force ships on both coasts of the country; the second third (of his Naval career) was spent in and out of Vietnam; and the final third (of his career) was spent in Logistics, the Naval War College (graduated "With Distinction"), the Joint Chiefs of Staff (J4) (the Pentagon), replenishment and maintenance of the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean and Command of the Military Sealift Command in the Mediterranean. He retired in 1984. His medals include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star w/Gold Star and Combat "V", Meritorious Service Medal w/2 Gold Stars, Air Medal w/numeral 4, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal w/Combat "V", Navy Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and the Vietnamese Navy Distinguished Service Medal. Captain Baker passed June 18, 2019 at age 87. I'm honored to be the caretaker of Captain Baker's war trophies (SKS & Tokarev pistol) brought back from Vietnam! When I was researching the Captain, I noticed a picture of him with Larry Cappetto, a military historian who has been interviewing our veterans for over 20 years. I contacted Larry and supported him in presenting Captain Baker’s story on his Youtube channel "Voices of History". I highly recommend supporting his channel and watching some amazing videos.
