I agree with JJ. Your collection, as well as many other agency gun collections, are getting rare due to many agencies destroying their guns rather than trying to trade them back when upgrading.

I remember small departments where I had to buy my own gun and so they didn't have any markings on them. The only thing you got to collect from them were shoulder patches.

I have one of those MPDC marked Gen 1’s. Cool piece. I almost had my hands on the MPDC marked Gen 2 19 but it went for way too much money.

Not just that , but when traded in en mass , they're All traded , instead of having individual purchase opportunity.

I recall being told that many DC area depts stopped allowing purchases when the guns started showing up in PG County crime scenes.

When they were traded back to the manufacturers, the manufacturers would then sell them to the distributors. The distributors would sell them to the individual guns shops and C&R collectors. So they did get into individual hands and for good prices too.

When the liberals started attacking the 2A in force, one of their tools was to get cities to make policies that would destroy the police guns rather than trade them back to the manufacturers to offset the cost of weapons upgrade. This is what affected the collectors market and inflated the prices of police department marked pistols.

Yes , true in that scenario , they would likely indirectly get back into circulation , depending up who their were traded to . ie factory direct vs a LE Distributor , number of guns involved , etc .

Big difference between searching the marketplace generally vs directly buying your former service weapon .

FWIW - Back in the day , when MPD switched from revolvers to Glock , the Ofc had opportunity to purchase their actual issued Revolver . The transfers were handled by MSAR ( at least for Md resident Ofc ) .

And the other , other strategy for Depts in that situation , was to just keep them indefinitely instead of cutting them up . Safes were comparatively cheap , and the guns already paid for . Someday down the road they might find a use for them , or policies could change eventually .

Thanks fellas! I remember D.C’s (Glocks in particular) showing up on crime scenes, as well. They then stopped selling our old guns, for a good 25 years. I am one of the VERY FEW , who was lucky enough to buy my gen 2. That’s the gun I carried for 25 years. I had inside information, before I retired, in 2019, that the sale was in the works. I had mine held in a safe, for over 3 years, so I could have it back. I know how valuable the gen 1 is, but, my actual issued service weapon, is priceless to me. It’s also cool, that, to my knowledge, D.C. was the very first agency, in the U.S. to transition to Glock 17’s and 19’s. Boston P.D. was probably the second.
