Just finished patterning it. Three shots with different ammo at 13 yards. Two shots with corroborating ammo at 36 yards. The best split I got was 60/40 L/R, but most were 70/30. That ain't gonna work for me. I made sure I was dead even down the rail...beads lined up and even barrel on both sides of the rail.

I'm going to try a different choke when it comes in next week. I'm aware that barrel/choke concentricity can be an issue, so I'll try another one to confirm.

It's a new-to-me 8 year old BT-99, seems to be very low rounds.

If I get the same pattern with a different choke, what are my options? I know in the old days they'd bend the barrel, but that seems like a neanderthal way to address the problem. You think Browning will take it in on warranty with it being so old?

1, what is your barrel length and choke
2, what ammo were you using
3, why are you patterning at 13 yards
    1) 34" with a Browning flush Full choke
    2) Rem Gun Club, Win Sporting clays, Federal. All 8 shot. The best pattern was Rem 7.5 (not gun club, but not SS either...it was a random round I had in my bag)
3)13 yards was recommended on a few trap places. Theoretically you multiply by 3 to get the pattern at 36 yards. I shot at 40 yards (where I believe I'm breaking the birds at the 24 yard line) to verify each of the 13 yard shots...it did.

I'm reading a couple of reviews now that are saying the Browning flush chokes suck. It could be true, but it would be hard to believe their chokes would suck in their guns. Stranger things have happened though. I bought a pair of Carlson chokes just to test.

With that length barrel, I would suggest you start with an improved choke and see how you do on a 16 yard trap field. I would also suggest that, if you are going to spend money on extended choke tubes, by Briley chokes and pay once.

If you are planning to be a card shooter, forget my advice, it won't help you.

Tried 16 a couple times now, once with full and once with Improved Cylinder...I'm shooting poorly. Hence the extra paper session.

I normally shoot full at any distance. The LH pattern is messing me up

Try different ammo and adjust your hold/mount. Make sure its consistent.
Good patterning starts at the chamber end, not the muzzle.
Sounds like you already found with a different choke, the gun shoots left.
Proabably just the way your managing the recoil, and jump.

Different ammo other than 4 brands? I mean, I'll keep trying, but the evidence is there.

I don't flinch on the shot.

So its the guns fault it sounds like?
    Whats the evidence again?
I'd say its the gun moving rearwards and left from inconsistent hold before the shot cups a third up the bore.

Maybe trying a different shooter to determine a change in results would be helpful.
Good luck figuring it out, choke tubes or bending the barrel will probably fix it, it sounds like.

Bending the barrel may sound Neanderthal...but if it has already been bent, it would need to be bent straightened. Who knows what misadventures it's been on in the last 8 years

Getting another experienced shooter to pattern it could rule out software problems.

Barrel steel is soft, it doesn't take much to bend a barrel. I caution my sons and friends to be careful with their shotguns and rifles about dropping them and rough handling, they can easily bend the barrels. We check our shotguns now and then like rifles and on occasion have to bend the barrels to sight them in. If you look at a Remington or Mossberg with a rib you can easily see the barrels are bent upwards. Although I would NOT RECOMMEND doing anything my brothers and I do, we bend the barrels to sight them in. Often times it's just whacking them a time or two on the bed/mattress, sometimes with a folded towel on it to get the direction we want. I've put a rag on a motorcycle tire and gave the barrel a whack against it. Mostly they've been Browning barrels because that's what we shoot most. Sometimes we whack the end and sometimes the middle and let the end whip in the direction we want it to go.
It doesn't sound like your BT99 is that far off, with a 34" barrel, if it was me, again me! I would whack it on the bed solidly then try it out. Not recommending you do it but that's what I'd do.
BUT trying a different choke tube, any choke tube would be a good first step.
As far as changing the stock cast, getting someone else to shoot it and such, I would think you're an experienced shooter enough to sight down a shotgun barrel to see it's shooting off.

    It's fully adjustable, …

Ruh roh - ^THAT^ factoid just jumped out of the screen and poked me in the eye like a pointed stick … you’re not alone and I don’t have the fingers and toes to count the fellow shooters I’ve seen go down the rabbit hole with stocks multi-adjustable at butt, comb, cast-on/-off, wrist, etc.

I’d ask how far are you from Barts Sports World but, Jack closed the shop in ‘15.

Jack; however; is still assisting shooters with stock adjusting. There is another fellow who is capable and who instructs at PG Skeet & Trap. Name escapes me but he assisted multiple fellow shooters with wildly adjustable custom stocks when I was shooting sporting in MD.

The exclamations of shooters after struggling on their own with Allen wrenches, etc. after someone qualified like Jack gets their adjustments dialed in and they are shooting straights is pretty heartwarming …

Come to think of it someone at the counter at PG should be able to get you Jacks contact info as well …

As soon as I can borrow a Lead Sled, I'm going to bench fire the gun to eliminate the me/stock factor. But I'm pretty confident in my shooting to say that it isn't me.

Case in point for finding someone who has helped HUNDREDS of shooters solve this challenge:

If Jack isn’t feeling well that fellow who instructs at PG is likely your next go-to

    Best o’ success …

ETA: Wholly krap! Did a search here in for “Jack Bart” and there pages of threads containing posts by shooters he has assisted with stick adjust zeroing in. (He adjusted the stock on my wife’s skeet gun in ‘99 and she went from mid teens to low 20’s like you flip a light switch. THAT was sumpin’ to see!

I see that Barts closed a few years ago...I wonder if he/they are still doing fittings? I'd love to get my gun fitted to me.
