Still a good deal. I think the only reasons these aren't flying off the shelves are general lack of familiarity with them, and the fact that they use proprietary mags.

The Century VZ2008 isn't quite as nice as the imported D-Technik VZs, and there are some very minor differences between them (like a slant brake vs the original muzzle brake and no chrome in the barrel). But at half the cost of a Czechpoint, the VZ2008 is still a bargain for a milled receiver rifle. Mine came with canted sights (it's a Century build after all) but once those were fixed it's been flawless. No complaints of soft receivers like on some of their other builds and the build quality is quite good.

Yeah, but at $9 a pop, just buy a dozen mags to go with it and you're golden. If this was a local sell, I'd probably pick one up (and I'm not an AK guy. For a beater, it's a good deal.)

Yeah, the $10 mags are going to be good for people in states without dumb mag limits. The rest of us will be scrounging, as usual. :-P

Total including shipping + transfer is $462. If you could buy locally for $399, it'd be $424 with tax. That's a difference, but not huge, and worth paying if your local store never seems to have any in stock. (Which I think describes most of the stores around here.)

Yes. I am. I shot one of mine this weekend. Optics, 75 round drum, ran flawlessly. Funny thing is that it's so light compared to other guns that it has a bit more perceived recoil than my suppressed Sage Chassis M1A in .308, which is funny.

I like shooting it, but not quite as much as the M1A with the suppressor.

With me having bummed-up shoulders, I'm wondering whether the VZ-2008 would be a good choice for me, given you say it has more recoil. Maybe bipod? Anybody done this?

Never shot mine with a bipod. There's a big difference between the crutch folder and full stock in terms of perceived recoil and comfort.

I swapped my crutch out promptly and would say it's now pretty comparable to an AK in terms of recoil. Maybe just a tad sharper and shorter cycling, the difference is there is no heavy bolt carrier/piston reciprocating back and forth.
