Also I don't think there is any point in waiting to renew your plates. All it costs you is an extra trip to the MVA. The fee is the same whether or not you have active plates.

I need to renew soon, and I live out of state. It takes a full day to round trip to the MVA.

I would say to go ahead and renew. When the time comes, it doesn't affect your sticker dates.
