Hello MDS Industry Partners,
I hope you're having a good weekend.
As you know, SB-1 "Gun Safety Act 2023" is now before the MGA's Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee. If enacted, this Act will for all practical purposes make it illegal for any Wear and Carry permit holder to carry their firearms outside the home for the purpose of self-defense. This Act violates the Maryland Declaration of Rights and the US Constitution.
It is not a certainty that the Act will pass favorably out of this Senate Committee. In fact, there are several Committee members that asked compelling questions about the proposed Act during its public hearing that was held on February 7th, 2023. However, if the Committee members do not hear from the public they will likely vote favorably and pass the Act to the Senate floor.
These Senators must hear from the Second Amendment public advocates about their opinions. Now is the time to act to stop this bill in Committee. If you have not already done so, please encourage all your customers, colleagues, friends and family to contact the members of the MGA Senate Judicial Committee members and tell them to VOTE NO on SB-1. Committee member contact information can be found here:
Additionally, the attached documents may help people more easily contact the Committee members. It would be great if you could review, share and post the attached documents. The documents will make it easier for Second Amendment advocates to tell the Committee's Senators to vote NO on this proposed legislation in Committee so it does not advance to the floor of the Senate. The two documents include:
1. "Write Your Own Emails to SJPC" - This document should be printed and posted in places where 2A advocates may be present. The document has QR codes that can be scanned by a mobile device, and after scanning an email is automatically created to specific members of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee members. Whoever does this can then write their thoughts on their mobile device and send the pre-addressed email. This document may best be posted near sales counters or other places where you and your team members encounter Second Amendment advocates so you and your team members can encourage the people to easily scan the QR codes and write and send an email to each of these Senators. It will take people a few minutes to do this.
2. "SJPC Pre-Written Emails" - This document has QR codes that are best screened using a computer monitor. They create fully written emails to the Committee members that are critical to the Judicial Proceedings Committee's vote on SB-1. These emails explain why the proposed Act is illegal, and wrong for Maryland. When the QR codes are scanned it produces the text of an email that can be sent to the Committee members. Users can edit the text if they want.
Please feel free to share these documents with people that may benefit from them. It would be great to see the "write your own emails" posted in gun shops, training facilities, ranges, sporting goods stores, clubs and places like that. The "pre-written email" document scans best from a computer monitor.
Every person that is interested in firearms and self-defense should be made aware that now is the time to communicate to the General Assembly's Judicial Proceedings Committee members. These documents may make it easier for people to do this.
Thank you very much, and please PM me if you have any questions or require any additional information about these documents.
