Went to Chantilly Gun Show and fondled a bunch of CCPs. I have a Sig P938 which I regret purchasing. I think having a manual safety is a bad idea for me. I don't think I'll ever remember to flip the safety off in an emergency. I however love the size for a 9mm. The closest thing, in size, I could find, that has a solid reputation, is the M&P Shield 2.0. Glock 43 also but thought the feel of the M&P was a bit nicer.

Anyone have experience with this handgun good or bad?

No experience with the 2.0, but have a performance center 1.0, and love it. If I’m not mistaken S&W adopted the PC upgrades for the 2.0?? Either way I’m sure the 2.0 is better than the original, and I highly recommend the one I have. I think you’ll like it for sure.

I have been carrying a S&W M&P40c for about 8 years and find it still works for me. I do have the Apex duty mods to the trigger and fiber/tritium sights but other than that it is stock. It just went over 5000 rounds of .40. I also have a 9mm factory barrel that I use to shoot 9mm as it is cheaper but I never tracked how many rounds I've shot with that. I haven't had any issues with it at all.

I have both the 9 1.0 and the .45. I liked the 9 so much i bought the 45 when it was available in md.
They both carry well IWB in minimal kydex. My impression is that the 9s grip might be a bit thin, and i shoot the 45 a tad better. My wife carries a glock 43 so i have shot it some and i like the shield better. Never had a FTF FTE with either ( the 45 dropped mags once in a while but that may be me due to recoil and hand placement). That’s concerning, though. They use all ammo from steel cases to +p, although steel sometimes will not load a full 45 mag. No issue with brass ammo. I agonized whether i should have instead bought the 43 when i bought the shield but do not regret the 9 at all. Nor would i have regretted the 43. Despite accolades for both shields, for the past 3 mos i have been carrying a Glock 27,also IWB. The shields are well made, reasonably priced, fun to shoot ( almost like full size guns) and i highly recommend them.

Forgot this. The .45 has sandpaper like treatment on the grip. The 2.0 may have adopted this. I had to sand the inside of the 45 grip in order to carry IWB against skin. Otherwise, it was painful. Others dont have this issue and some who do have used rubber grips and grip decals. And, the triggers on the 9 and 45 are just fine (both of my shields made in last 2.5 yrs).

Very nice. I have a gen 1 Performance Center 9. Truly love it, but like anything firearms it could be better. I like your grip stippling, you do that yourself or are they swap-out panels? That’s the only thing I don’t really like on mine, the grip frame is so narrow that the smooth grips don’t give me a grip that I’m really satisfied with sometimes. I can see where that would be a benefit in concealed carry - not snagging on a shirt or jacket, and not sanding your skin off. Since I live in MD & can’t concealed carry other than in my home, this isn’t a huge priority at the moment. Does the new grip pattern help you a bunch?

Note: I also have a 2.0 full size 9, the grips on that are like 80 grit sandpaper. Very positive grip, but haven’t spent any extended range time yet, wondering if that will backfire on me in the form of blood and blisters (yeah, I used to have the rough & worn hands of a man but sadly not so much anymore :sad20:).

I own several handguns and have carried a few over the years and prefer the Kahr P or PM9. I am an instructor and most students love them. I have a few for sale.

Hi yes I stippled the grip panels myself. I work at my local FFL and we do custom stippling as a service. I can do several different types of patterns depending on how aggressive you want it to be.

People I know with shield and g43 like them a lot.

I have a p938 as well. I don't come from a 1911 background when I learned shooting, but from strong DA like revolvers and DA/SA like sig. I have an admittedly not rational discomfort with cocked and locked with the p938 for carry. I think the p938 is perfect for someone coming from 1911 experience.

the only problems I have had with p938 is:
    1) aforementioned irrational worry about hammer back even with safety on.
    2) your concern about forgetting to switch safety to ready. I forget about one in 50 to 75 times on the range. under stress that could translate to forgetting to switch safety to one in 10 or one in 20 which is problematic odds.
    3) a full magazine when ejected will pull down top round in gun. So if you are loading a round to be chambered, you have to put just one round in the mag, chamber it, and then eject and fill the mag. If you need to unload it from a normal state of 6 or 7 in ht mag and +1 chambered, then when you eject the mag a round will often go flying who knows where. this sucks if you have to occasionally unload your firearm while in the car.

In looking at g43 and shield I was also sorely tempted by springfield XDe since it can be used DA/SA like a traditional double action hammer with decocker like a sig, but cheaper, considerably lighter, and slightly smaller than a sig single stack DA/SA. But the initial DA pull on the XDE is nothing like a sig, much longer reach. My hands are average, and I am also considering wether a gun would be appropriate for my daughters when they grow up and the XDE is not

If you have long fingers though and have an affinity for DA/SA, i suggest you handle an XDE. as good on the range as a striker on that first shot? maybe not. perhaps safer or more psychologically comfortable for some inside the waisteband? I think so.
