    Howdy,

Does anyone have a lead on anywhere close or far from Annapolis or Centerville that might have RWS #11 1075 or 1055 in stock? Trying to dial in a real finicky Remington 1858, and common #11 .166 keeps popping off.

    Thanks, appreciate any tips!

Are there any shops in MD that have #10 or #11 caps?

I'm in the same predicament as the original poster. In my case I bought my first BP gun (Ruger Old Army) last week and now I'm trying to find caps (I've managed to piece together everything else) so I can shoot it........

I'm still currently trying to restock on them...I have plenty of musket caps, though. I haven't been able to locate any #10 or #11 since the last ones I had sold.

Hope that .36 is treating ya well...been still trying to get some more small bore stuff in!

I only had a chance to shoot it twice before the real cold weather came up. It has lots of potential. I was only shooting at 16 yards and was making one ragged hole. That was with a open sight mounted where the slot blank was as I removed the Williams sight as it didn't work with my face bones.

As an old guy, I like a peep sight on my rifles and I am working on coming up with one that will work on this and not take away from the period authenticity.

Just as a follow-up report on cap availability, Reddings Hardware in Gettysburg and Fort Chambers Black Powder shop in Chambersburg both have #10 and #11 caps in stock (in addition to The Saint's stock of musket caps).

Do you pinch your percussion caps slightly before inserting them on the nipples? Also, do you use a wooden dowel end to seat your percussion caps firmly after you've placed them on the nipples?

No, I just seat them by hand. Never had issues.

My CVA hawken is said by the manufacturer to use #11 caps and I can put #10's on it and shoot it. If I do not pinch the caps when putting them on hunting they will fall off and I will feel stupid when an eight point buck walks past and the gun goes "clack" and he just turns and looks at me like "WTF was that? " Then slowly walks away while I realize my caps are in my backpack and I can't get them without him noticing movement. (again) Certain events makes you never forget to pinch your caps :)

Update. Just stopped at Bass Pro on way home from AGC. They have #11 caps (Remington, about 15 tins out in the muzzleloader isle, $13.99/tin), and 209 primers. Price is high, but at least their showing up.

That’s good to know. I need to check my shelf stock of caps. I have been getting urges on and off to take my 1847 Walker out to the AGC.

The other night my wife found me watching TV and cutting up old aluminum cans into strips. She knows better to ask, but said, “How is this related to shooting. Don’t tell me it’s not.”

She knows me. I bought a couple of dies and the supply kits needed to make my own caps. I’m set to make at least a few thousand now if I ever need to. The 11s with the recommended chemistry make my Ruger Old Army go bang just fine. When the market improves, need to pile up more powder just cuz.

I'm shaking my head in wonderment...am I the only person who stocks up?
Nope! I've got tins from 20 years ago. Once the prices settle down a bit, I'll buy the ones I hope I'm still alive in twenty years to look at and say, "I've got tins from way back in 2022."
