Someone on here suggested that I introduce myself to better understand the perspective of some of my posts. Here goes:
I'm a 64 year old living in Annapolis for the last 29 years after growing up in the Deep South. I was introduced to firearms by my Dad and his FBI Special Agent brothers starting at 9 years old and I've owned, hunted, and practiced firearms proficiency for pretty much my whole life since. Before moving to Maryland in 1994 I would participate weekly in a unsanctioned fun combat match at the local indoor range in Marietta Georgia. During that time I used 400-600 rounds a week and reloaded all my .45 ACP ammo used in practice and contests. I moved to the Socialists State of Maryland to start a business in 1994. I left the firearms hobby behind for a few years until emerging from a pretty insane work schedule when I begin visiting the range at On Target near Fort Meade on an infrequent basis. About 5 years ago I got serious about getting back my mojo. I had a carry permit in Georgia since the early 1980s but never bothered in Maryland since they didn't think I had a good and substantial reason for it. Last year when that got reversed, I signed up for an HQL class and my Utah permit and followed that up with the HGP class in October. I've been on a hyper focused deep dive on concealed carry since last fall and I'm back to using up about 500 rounds a month at a couple of different ranges (Cindy's and MSAR). I've also been a member at Pintail Point on and off over the years and do get over to break some clays from time to time and always enjoy introducing new people to that sport.
My Colt Government Model 70 .45 was purchased from an Olympic medalist that owned a gun shop in Georgia and this was his customized firearm. It's been accurized, ported/polished, trigger work, and micro sights added and shoots extremely well. In tens of thousands of rounds through it I can count on one hand how many times it's malfunctioned - always due to ammo. I still shoot that .45 regularly in range practice and it sometimes get's brought along on camping trips.
Way back I also had acquired a Rugar .22 Mk II bull barrel thinking I'd shoot IPSC but never got around to doing anything but plinking with it. I still have it and use it regularly to introduce curious people to handguns and the range.
My concealed carry handgun is a Sig P365 w/Lima 365 laser and it's this handgun that's getting the most practice use these days practicing my draw stroke from concealment and putting rounds on target at the range. It's a lot more fun to practice with than I thought a micro could be.
Growing up in the Deep South I came to hold dear my 2nd Amendment right. My family there would sometimes say that if the US is ever invaded they hope they try to come through Alabama and Georgia first because that's where it'll end. I did a lot of hunting when I was younger, mostly deer on International Paper Co land in central Georgia. My weapon of choice for that was a Marlin Glenfield 30-30 lever gun that was very effective for that use. I've done no hunting since moving to Maryland but a friend in Colorado keeps inviting me out to help him take a few Mountain Lions on his ranch and I'm looking forward to taking him up on that.
