"Work" is such a strong word.

I consider GOA to be a scam, as they refuse to compromise, while our entire political system is based on give & take so they're able to say they've refused to compromise while at the same time getting absolutely zero results. They keep asking for funds, but refuse to compromise with (aka, hold discussions with) those in power or use those funds to influence such people.

Mostly they've helped with a few "defense funds" here and there, but from the news reports on those cases, any decent lawyer should have been able to achieve the same result without some organization dipping their hand into the pot.

I'll have to ask my HS friend who's now a Congressional lobbyist/think-tank talking head about the GOA, I'm sure her reaction would be good for a laugh or two.
