If you have or know children who have been affected by a parents cancer, I would like to recommend that you take a look at Camp Kesem.
They provide FREE 1 week Summer Camps to children, support and other events throughout the year. It's a chance for kids to meet, hangout, have fun and interact with other kids who have had to deal with the F'uppedness of cancer.
My girls started attending back in 2016 and have had a great experience with this organization. The counselors are all College students who donate their time to the cause. We belong to the Johns Hopkins Chapter. UMD and Towson have one as well.
For the 1st few years, they attended summer camp at Camp Louise, near Thurmont. This year, they will be going to Camp Sandy Point.
Everything about this program is FREE. The College students conduct fundraisers throughout the year for their chapters, the National Organization runs high end fundraisers.
The program has really helped my girls. They have the ability to interact with other kids who have similar experiences. They have both told me that this helps, because even though they have great friends in town and school who support them, they don't really know what it is like to have this shitty experience.
The Camps are about fun, with "SOME" dedicated time to talk about feelings and experiences.
Check out the Kesem website. I think that the application window is still open for new campers, but if it is closed you could still join, participate in the events throughout the year and get lined up for next years camp.
