Background Check Gun Records Are Saved

Alan Korwin (Gunlaws.com) writes about the universal background checks process and explores its history back to when the NICS computer was initiated by Attorney General Janet Reno, in compliance with the Brady Bill in 1994. The law laid out that records were to only be held temporarily but it would seem this is not being upheld and was never going to be.
The diagram at the top of this page shows in considerable detail the interrelation between the various aspects of the process, but in order to see more detail it is presented within the main article as an expanding image -

Refer to the "Sandy Hook Index" for an archive collection of valuable material we have shown since the events at the Newtown Elementary School.
Check out Gun/Murder Statistics: A set of tabulated and graphical data showing relationships between gun numbers and murders - categorized by alphabetical countries listing. Useful research material.
Thought for the day -- "Isn't it strange that after a bombing, everyone blames the bomber ... but after a shooting, the problem is the Gun ! "

Wow... Stunning...

Knock me over with a feather.

Anyone who believed the tripe that records in ANY computer system--ESPECIALLY a Federal one--are "temporary"?? Well, I'd like whatever Pollyanna Potion they're drinking!

I have always wondered what is the point of the NICS number if there is no way to verify. :innocent0

For verification purposes, NICS # and pass/fail would all you'd need to store. You could store date of request if you wanted some additional checking without violating any privacy requirements. You could also store the FFL license # / location if you wanted, still wouldn't be a gun registry.

Basically "I bought a firearm, I used this NICS #" and that's recorded on the receipt or something. Law-abiding folks would keep that receipt - it'd be a defense that they passed the check.

But what do I know...
