Yesterday, I made it to 2 different gun shops and got to look at some guns, Shield Plus, Glock 43X, Canik MC9, Ruger Max 9, Sig P365 (3 different variants), and a few others. I hated this beratta (stippling was way too agressive), the original P365 felt way too small, and Ruger Max 9 and Targus GX4 wn't easy to easy to field strip. My favorites were PSA Dagger (Felt great in my hand), SW Shield Plus, the larger variants of the P365, and the Canik MC9. Over all, based on trigger, feel and what not, were the Shield Plus and MC9. Both dealers stated they hadn't had any of their customers come back with issues with the MC9 and that it would be hard to get. Both told me with the correct holster, I can make pretty much any gun disappear in my waistband and to not worry about size.

Bottomline is that I'm as confused as ever...

Between the two you mentioned, I'd recommend the Shield Plus.

And yes, you can conceal just about anything, but after you've been walking around with a full-sized pistol in your pants for awhile, you might take another look at that P365.

Ruger Fan Boy from DE says don’t overlook Ruger.

    1. Reliable
    2. Affordable
    3. Service after sale if needed.

The Security 9 compact is concealable and the 10 rd mags that must come with it in MD are not useless.

Same with the Security 380 of the same size only easier to rack and shoot for the recoil sensitive.

The LCP line can be carried anywhere even in a button down shirt pocket!

No wonder I have always liked them.
Also the LCR in .38-----disappears in a pocket holster

Well-- at least you have probably narrowed down the field to a few real contenders. From there you can always build a decision matrix---if that's your thing.

Just remember, Micro compacts are not supposed to be fun to shoot, but you do have to be able to shoot them. Keep that in the back of your mind.

Good deal on at least holding a bunch of guns back to back.

Everyone’s gun budget and buying philosophy is different. Historically, I have tended to be a buyer and seller. I’ll buy something and if it turns out I don’t like it for whatever reason, I’ll consign it. I look at the financial loss as I learned something and got to rent it so to speak for a period of time.

The part that sucks for a carry gun is you end up with a bunch of holsters in a box. That seems inevitable anyway.

At some point you’ll just have to say f it and pick one. Go shoot the crap out of it and see what you like and what you would change.

I alluded before , but I'll come back to it .

IF pocket carry is an important criteria , that original configuration P365 will be looking good for you .

( For most people , with most hand sizes ) a true pocket gun will have trade offs . A bigger gun that you can get a full grip will obviously be better for range shooting , but here your criteria will be * plenty good enough for realist intended purposes .

For example , my OG generation quasi Pocket sub compact , I can shoot as well at 15 yards , as a full size 9mm at 25 yds . * To Me * , that's a worthwhile tradeoff , and sufficient for 90% plus of potential scenarios .

To Me , there is a division between Pocket capable vs not pocket . To Me , there are a bunch of guns that are neither fish nor fowl . I.e. too big for pocket , too small to be a decent belt gun . YMMV .

To Me , a sweet spot is Original Configuration Shield . But nowadays many hate on them for not being double stack .

Yes , shoot several of the likely candidates .

Our " problem " is that there are many choices , most of which would all be reasonably suitable .

I was just looking at ranges and saw that Bel Air Range offers free rentals on Monday. My plan is to head down after work tomorrow to see what the have for me to shot.

I would call and ask what their policy is. Maybe you can print off your HGP permit application if you don’t already have it, assuming you don’t currently own a firearm.

I would think the odds of someone starting the W&C process and then deciding to go to a public range to off themselves is low.
