Surprised to learn 1st hand Home Depot now has locking carts to prevent thefts. If the cart isn’t deactivated, the wheels lock up on exiting, kicking off an alarm

    Any in your area?

Supermarket in Baltimore had that 25 years ago. Kept the locals from 'liberating' the carts.

Locking Carts...love -em when the thieves load em up and run
some are proximity others are a wire laid in the asphalt / concrete
they have remotes that unlock the wheels, some places "lock-em"
when the store closes. so people don't steal them..BTW they make
    great DIY grills..

What's really funny is as in this example
Was the opening Mgr. we sold beer and wine a nice sunny Saturday
morning. around 8am, 3 Hispanics came in to load their cart up with
Corona 12pks. My people told me they saw some guys hanging around
the registers, and we basically knew they were gonna bolt out the door
so sure enuff they did, a couple of my guys were like, "lets" go get em
that cart was heavy loaded with all them 12 packs, nah I said, just wait
I knew where the lock-up point was.so my guys took a smoke break.
Here's these 2 Hispanics pushing this cart as fast as they can up this
inclined parking lot. the other guy was in front, I was like wait for it,
just wait for it....and "now" well those wheels locked up and in combination
of all that weight, one guy up over the shopping cart, the other guy
hit the ground, the 3rd just took off. the one guy who become airborne
needed help to try and run away, so my guys started laughing, couldn't
stop, and we got it all on Camera. "PRICELESS"
Tally for today: Cart: 1 / Hispanics: 0,, oh we got the beer back.
Another thing we used to do, is you could point one of our hand held
things at the cart and would lock just those wheels, get somebody who's
had way to much to drink, and their buying more and lock the wheels
is really a show stopper, recording it in living color on a Hires video
system is fantastic..add your own narration...PRICELESS

A much better solution than a tablet mounted on aisle racking with a looped video of a guy sitting in a room watching a computer screen, typing on a computer and constantly answering and "talking" on a phone.
