Looking for a shorter stock for my 870. I have looked at the Remington youth stock, but that is only an inch shorter. I don't want a pistol grip/ stock combo so the hogue seems to fit the bill.

Any feedback on these? What's good, what's bad?

    Thanks.

I just went through the same scenario with my Mossberg. A lot of recommendations for the Hogue 12" stock for a shorter LOP stock. Plusses on the texture/grip.
I decide on the other route and took a hacksaw to my standard stock and removed 2.5" to give me roughly a 12" LOP.. Easy peasy really and it only took me around 20-30 minutes. Google as I am sure the 870 will be just as easy.

Interesting. I could remove 2" from The OEM stock however, what did you end up doing about the recoil pad?

I pretty much followed the steps from this link for my Mossberg.. I re-drilled the holes into the "ribs" inside the stock.

The pad when attached now hangs about an inch past the bottom edge of the stock. I plan on sanding it down this weekend to remove that extra material.
Definitely feels like a brand new shotgun.

Thanks, great info:thumbsup: Now to decide if I want to tackle this project or go with the Hogue.

    Good luck!
I figured if I screwed up I still had the Knoxx stock I was trying to replace or I would just purchase the Hogue stock.

What's the reason for such a short LOP? If it's for a real little kid, I can see it. Not so much for an adult. When it come to a reduction in LOP, a little is a lot and 2" is a tremendous amount, much more than most people think.

It's a HD shotgun, I'm 5'9" and my arms aren't that long. I've had this shotgun for 3 years and after shooting a friend's with a short LOP, I realized how uncomfortable 14" is.

I may cut mine one inch and see if that works. Thanks
