    THIS X1000.
Couldn’t have said it better my friend.
The other advantage to getting it now is that you’d have it before the next MGA session passes more laws regarding this. Once you have it you have two years before your first renewal. My hope is that whatever bs they decide to pass gets struck down prior to having to renew.
I’d rather have my permit in hand BEFORE they start monkeying around with it.

I assumed I was alone in my view.

I went out of my way to get a MD permit. Does not mean I agreed with the cost and hurdles.

I think the cost and hurdles for most permits is discriminatory.

I'm in the don't have references camp. Three seems like no big deal for most people but I'm a bit screwed. I haven't been working for 3 years due to health issues, I stopped going to church on a regular basis some time ago, no social clubs or bars, and few if any of my neighbors speak English let alone would probably want to talk to me at all. I'm honestly a little afraid of going to MDS Meetups, you clowns are nuts. If I absolutely had to maybe I'd put down the young guy that's my dialysis tech, we shoot the S while he's stabbing me with needles. I'd hesitate because he'd probably be all "Oh yeah, you should let Mr. Brute carry a gun. He'll take down anyone who effs with him" or something else crazy thinking he's helping.

Regarding reciprocity, for some reason I've been under the impression that an out of state permit isn't valid in the state you reside in. Like if I moved to Delaware my Utah permit wouldn't be recognized once I legally established residency. Maybe it's an "up to the individual state" thing? I'll go looking for something to cite one way or the other later if nobody knows for sure off the top of their head.

If people decide to abstain from getting a permit until there are no hurdles, that's their call, but they may be waiting a very long time.

I sincerely hope they don't need a gun for defense while they are waiting for that perfect day to arrive.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't fight to get references removed. I'm not saying we shouldn't fight to have employer info removed. I'm just saying maybe it's better to have a permit to defend yourself as soon as possible, until that perfect day comes.

I strongly object to mandatory training, but I still paid for it. I think training makes it impossible for those on limited budgets to afford to defend themselves. I think it's discrimination but I won't be defenseless while we fight to have it removed.
    Some other considerations:

My wife is taking the class this weekend. She's unlikely to carry regularly, but is far happier about the idea of having a permit if - for example - she's hanging out in the vehicle while I'm running some errand, and I leave a second piece in a bag in the car (just a for-instance scenario). She's covered on any LEO friction that might present.

But more to the point, this is a matter of PRINCIPLE. Yes, a principled position might be to wait until the deliberately punitive costs/logistics are lifted. But the wife and I see this more as a statement. There is power - philosophically, rhetorically, straight up politically, and in leaving a mark historically - in the number of new carriers exploding in Maryland as immediately as possible. Because all those new permit holders aren't going to create a bump in crime, as we all know. But their existence minus that effect is something the lefties don't want anyone to notice ... and I'd like to hold it up in their faces. The floodgate has been opened, and we have to - after all the work done and litigation/support money spent along the way to get there - make a point of being in the flood. We're putting our money where our mouths are, and fattening up those statistics as quickly as possible.

Another friend will be joining the missus in the class, and that's two new permit holders that wouldn't have existed pre-Bruen. I hope there are tens of thousands more and in very short order. The crush, the wave of it is an important thing to demonstrate. We'll look back on being part of it as being part of a broader, more important push-back against the statist MFers we've been grousing about all this time. Action. It's expensive, here, but it feels good AND it looks good, and it makes the Mommies even madder, which is worth the cost of a case of 9mm all by itself.

I agree. My wife didn't plan on carrying every day but she does now. It takes time to model your methods of carry to your life.

I also agree about the # of permits being important. If everyone holds off, it makes the MD 2A community look smaller than it really is. In my opinion not applying helps reinforce the anti 2A side. The antigunners will say "see, only a few thousand Trumpers applied for permits". A tidal wave of permits sends a message. Also will make it harder for people like Franchot to rescind Hogan's suspension of G&S when 100k people have MD W&C Permits.

From what sgt Pickle said on the zoom call its codified in to maryland law. So the MGA would have to change it. I have read a fair amount of the laws dealing with it, and have not seen it but that does not mean its not there.
Md does have reciprocity, with carry permits for armored car drivers, from ANY state.

I know it's in comar. I forget if it's in the actual statute.

Who decides and how is reciprocity with other states decided?

Current MD law does not allow for any reciprocity for self defense permits. It would require the General Assembly to revise the law, or a court to find some basis to order MD to accept other states' permits.

Your references don't have to me MD residents. I can't answer anything beyond that with regards to your situation with references.

I know the MSP called all of my references and none live in MD.

As far as reciprocity goes, it depends on the state. You are correct in regards to DE. If you are a DE resident you can't carry on a UT permit. Again, this is different for each state. Some states have no reciprocity, some are very generous. Some states that have reciprocity only accept resident permits (Colorado is one of them). Some states allow non residents to apply, and some don't let non residents apply.

I am now seeing 2-day classes for $300 including fingerprints, photos, etc. ($75 app fee not included)
Can you post where this is, or send me a PM please

I know Vanguard (an IP here) is $150, which would still be less than $300 when all is said and done.

My life is tiny, and pathetic, but it's still kind of difficult to schedule two 8 hour classes, plus travel.

I need to look into Geared Up near me.

    No. Central MD.

Edit: I dont want to name names. You can find these on faceplant. Right now the going rate for 2-day class is between 300 and 350, finger prints and photos incl, but when you into the "book class" section its full now until mid august to September lmao.

Thanks for that. Would be shocked if MD comes out on the generous side, at least voluntarily anytime soon. But I do love surprises.

If you can make it (I know, fat chance) it would be my pleasure to buy you a corned beef sandwich (or any other of your choosing).

Even the great and powerful Mrs. Doc T will be there.
    Doesn't matter. I've been unfriended.
