Help with Arisaka type 38

Make an offer if interested missing buttplate and the chrysanthemum has been ground off.
The action is fine mag drops good.
Estimate it’s from 1906 to 1909

Almost looks like a Type 99 with one gas vent in the front ring.
It’s attaining rifle of some sort.

Could be a trainer, or a "last ditch". Don't think I would shoot it in either case.
The ugly bolt/safety and simple rear sight makes me think last ditch.

How does the bore look? If smooth, then I lean towards it being a trainer.

What are the markings on the side of the receiver (if there are any)? Should have the arsenal kanji, serial # and a few other markings. If it is just a simple serial # then I would guess it is a trainer.

So I found it’s a late war type 99 series 27.

Does it have the cleaning rod? That alone can be valuable since many have been lost.

It wasn’t with it when I had it this morning however I didn’t take the gun in. I will check.
