I found this site a few years ago and joined then passed by occasionally but have never posted much.
If y'all can stand a NC redneck, I may hang out here some. I'm 66 years old and have been shooting all my life. Started reloading in the mid '70s and honestly, I love to load more than I do shooting. I have a Dillon 550B for handguns, a Redding T7 and a Big Boss for rifles plus a Sinclair arbor press for the straight line Wilson dies for my 6BR. I've been a Life member of the NRA since probably 84 and joined GOA a couple of years ago. I want to thank everyone for making this site possible and will be more than happy to help anyone here in any way I can. I'll shut up now, carry on.

I'm a summer visitor of NC, (Outer Banks), so welcome. I love NC, and if my kids move away when theyre on their own, I'd love to move down there.

    Welcome from Ellicott City.

You are right that there is some sort of magic here that isn’t really found in other firearm discussion boards. I followed https://www.carolinashootersclub.com/ 6-7 years ago about the same time I joined here. I just assumed that the Carolina Shooters group would be more useful and informative, just because it was In Carolina, not Maryland. I couldn’t have been more wrong. That place is a ghost town.

    Welcome to MDS.
I frequent NC (I’m just getting back after spending Christmas and NYE.) Mostly near where slsc98 mentioned, Hickory and Lenoir, and on the eastern side of the state in Wilmington.

    Welcome!

    From Hickory - Morganton , NC … !

I didn’t know you lived in Hickory. I used to visit the Corning fiber optics plant down there for work 20yrs ago. Man, I enjoyed the company lunch meetings. I forget the name of the place, and by NC standards it may not even been that good, but it was some of the best BBQ a young Marylander had ever experienced. Folks were so nice and I was utterly shocked at how big the houses were near the lake and they cost 30% less than my Ellicott City home at the time.

We’re actually in Connelly Springs, about a half hour outside Hickory on the south shore of Rhodhiss Lake -

    Probably “JD’s Smokehouse!” OMG!!!!!!!!

I owe @Squaregrouper a plate of his choice from there, too! (He installed all the aquarium at the epic Hickory Science Center before we moved here in ‘14)

Oh yeah, Corning STILL is among the foundational employers in this area, too!

Born and bred here are salt o’ the Earth for most part but, lotsa immigration escaping the DemonRat destroyed northeast … some of dem are salt as well and some, well, sigh.

No doubt about it, “the secrets out”, haha.

NC is great but the landscape is starting to change to purple. Wake county especially around RTP.

Appreciate your post and the replies. I was born in Cleveland county myself. We’ve traced my daddy’s family to Alexander county as far back as 1700s.

I visited Cleveland County a couple of years ago when I went to the Earl Scruggs Center. Guess you can tell by my username that he is one of my heroes.
I was born and raised on a farm in Yadkin County and spent my early years working in tobacco. I still live here but gave up farming. I had a couple of really bad years in the mid '70s due to drought, had to get a job to pay my bills, and never looked back.

Thank you for the reply and the bit of history on yourself. I have passed through Yadkin plenty of times running back and forth to the farm here. Often thought that it would make some fine farming. Farming is a hard life and is not meant for all. I still keep my work going and our farming supplements it.

I lack musical gifts myself, but some of our kids do a fine job. My oldest boy has taken up the banjo. He does fair but his gal can put outdo him. She came up from down east to play in the state competition. She took first place in the claw hammer portion this past fall.

Anyway. Good to meet you and hope to catch you around some of the threads, sir.
